I have installed some lvp over tile on a couple jobs. If its on a concrete slab and the tile is pretty level you can just go right over the tile. If the grout lines are big or the floor in uneven you can use henrys feather finish and hand patch the spots that are needed Answer from Thurnis999 on reddit.com

12x12 vinyl squares - DoItYourself.com Community Forums
August 21, 2012 - Im am probably going to install the 12x12 vinyl squares but I am a little worried. I should probably spend a little more time and lay vinyl sheeting down. ... It's a bit more work to do sheeting (at least for the measuring and templates)...but it's way better that peel and stick. Tile is not much more if you get the clearance stuff ...and if your sub-floor will support it...it could last for years and years.

r/Flooring on Reddit: Can you put down vinyl flooring on top of 12x12 tile flooring?
March 19, 2022 -
I recently purchased my first home! It has this large 12x12 square tile down and I am looking to put down a nice looking vinyl myself. I’ve heard mixed things on whether or not I should remove the tile before laying down the vinyl. It’s a wide plank vinyl floor if that affects anything. What are y’all’s opinion on this?

If ceramic or porcelain tile, I would either remove the tile and whatever is under down to the plywood subfloor, or use a self leveler compound to fill in the grout lines and level off any texture the tile might have.

September 7, 2020 - I'd use a good waterproof vinyl plank flooring like NuCore or Lifeproof. Keep the peel and stick down as a moisture barrier. The more costly choice would be to remove the p&s tile and install wood look porcelain tile.

It's not the peel-and-stick type; it's the high-quality, realistically textured, thick vinyl tiles that need to be glued down like regular tile. I've removed the old floor covering to expose the 3/4" plywood subfloor.

r/HomeImprovement on Reddit: Asbestos in 12" vinyl tile?
August 21, 2023 -
We have 12-inch floor tiles in the mudroom of our home (built in 1964 - not sure how old the tiles are) that are slightly damaged, and I'm worried they might contain asbestos. I am already in the process of getting a licensed inspector to come out and test the tile but wondering if anyone here has an opinion. They have a bit of glitteriness to them which makes me worried.

Dont sweat it either way, just cover them. The asbestos removal industry has worked hard to convince people that anything asbestos must be removed, but that is not true. Disturbed asbestos is dangerous, not something static like flooring or exterior siding. I am a safety professional and know this from first hand experience. Even in the workplace, OSHA does not require it be removed, just prevented from entering the environment. Covering it is the best way. In your case, I would just put an LVT or similar over it and call it good. If you have it removed you will disturb it and it will get into your home environment, unlike it is now.

Like what is posted already. Cover it if you can. It’s wild looking at old YouTube videos of people working with asbestos. Literally they have tubs of fluffy asbestos and they are just grabbing handfuls and dumping it from one area into another. No masks or gloves
