To explain my methodology to get this first draft of a list, I included every dinosaur with at least 200k search results on google, then added a couple extra dinos that I thought were important enough to be included. This of course is a very flawed system, so I'm hoping this Sub will help me fill in the gaps. The general criteria I'm looking for is dinosaurs that hold some notable historical, biological, or pop culture significance. World record dinos is something I am trying to include as well. I didn't include any dinos like Brontosaurus and Dracorex however as current scientific knowledge suggests that these were actually preexisting species. If I accidentally included any dinos that also fall in that category, let me know. Answer from Netheraptr on reddit.com

Famous Dinosaurs List With Pictures And Interesting Facts
May 15, 2024 - It should come as no surprise that the number one dinosaur in this list of the most famous dinosaurs is… Tyrannosaurus Rex. It says much about the popularity of this dinosaur that Tyrannosaurus Rex is one of the few dinosaurs to be known by its species name, rather than by the wider genus name.

I'm attempting a list of the 100 best / most unique / most important dinosaurs. Who should be added and who should be cut?

Aside from Tyrannosaurus Rex, what are the most popular dinosaurs?
Can't give you much in the way of ranking other than this, but Triceratops is a very close second to T. rex and beats just about everything else. Hope this helps. More on reddit.com

Tenontosaurus is a very close relative of the more famous dinosaur from Europe called Iguanodon. ... With its stocky and husky 25-foot-long skeleton, Triceratops would have been a formidable adversary even without its massive and bizarre skull, armed with three intimidating horns and a sturdy shield of bone at the back. ... Probably the most famous of all extinct dinosaurs, the mighty Tyrannosaurus possessed a surprisingly light, hollow-boned, 40-foot-long skeleton.

25 Most Popular and Famous Dinosaurs: A Comprehensive List - Discover Walks Blog
February 6, 2024 - Roaming North America during the Late Jurassic period, the Ceratosaurus wasn’t the biggest predator on the block, but its unique features and hunting style have made it a popular dinosaur among dino enthusiasts. Measuring around 17-23 feet (5-7 meters) long, height of about 4 meters (13 feet), and weighing about 2 tons (4,000 lbs), this medium-sized carnivore was likely an agile hunter, thanks to its slender build and powerful legs. Its most striking feature was the large, bony horn on its snout, which gave it its name (“horned lizard”).

July 10, 2025 - To be fair, though, this double-crested dinosaur was still pretty awesome looking – it just wasn’t quite as cool as the film made it out to be! Nemicolopterus crypticus, discovered in northeastern China, would have flitted about from tree to tree chasing insects about 120 million years ago. With a wingspan of just ten inches (25 cm), it’s hard to imagine it could possibly have been related to the terrifying quetzalcoatlus! One of the most famous sets of opalized dinosaur fossils was a pair of dinosaur jawbone fragments, complete with teeth, that had a striking vein of opal running through the bone.

December 17, 2021 - This group of dinosaurs survived across the span of 150 million years, which means they thrived through the entire dinosaur age. During their existence, the pterosaurs evolved into several different species with unique traits such as slender jaws, elaborate head crests and specially developed teeth. Although pterosaurs were carnivores, they mostly survived on a diet of fish and other small animals. The ever-popular pterodactyl was the largest species to have ever flown.
