The blinking pattern you’re observing on your Dell Inspiron 3558 (4 times amber followed by 1 time white) indicates a Battery Issue. Since your laptop is an older model, it’s possible that the battery has reached the end of its lifespan. Battery Replacement: You’ll need to replace the battery. You can find compatible replacement batteries for your Dell Inspiron 3558. Here’s a link to a replacement battery that you can consider. Battery Report Check: Create a battery report to check the status of your current battery. Open a Command Prompt window (search for 'cmd' in the Start menu). Type the following command and press Enter: powercfg /batteryreport This will generate a battery report. Locate the report file (usually saved in your user folder) and open it. Compare the Design Capacity value with the Full Charge Capacity value. For a healthy battery, these values should be nearly the same. Temporary fix/Workaround: Hard Reset Turn off the laptop. Disconnect  the AC adapter and remove the battery or simply remove the base cover and disconnect the battery cable. Disconnect all devices such as USB drives, printers, webcams, and media cards (SD/xD). Press and hold the power button for 15 to 20 seconds to drain the residual power. Connect the AC adapter and battery. Turn on the computer. If you still need assistance, please contact support by clicking the ‘Get Help Now’ button located at the bottom right corner of the page. Hi @Alan Natividad

Thank you for reaching out through the Microsoft Q&A forum.

While we’d love to help, this forum is focused on Microsoft product support, and it looks like your issue is related to Dell hardware, specifically the blinking lights on your Dell OptiPlex 7080.

I understand this might not be what you were expecting, but I hope this resource helps. You might find this page from the Dell manual helpful, it covers diagnostic light codes and what they mean:  Diagnostic LED behavior | Dell OptiPlex 7080 | Small Form Factor Service Manual (Page 62)

r/Dell on Reddit: Dell XPS 15 9575 4 amber 1 white light blinking, won't turn on unless plugged in while blinking
January 21, 2020 -

I've had my XPS 15 (2-in-1) for about 2 years now and it's been a great laptop so far. Recently, my laptop indicator light (front of the laptop, right below touchpad) has been blinking in a specific pattern (4 short amber, 1 long white). While it is blinking, the laptop will immediately shut off if not plugged in. In addition, my battery life has degraded somewhat significantly (from 75 to 38 mWh). These two combine to make it quite difficult to use my computer as a laptop since I am constantly looking for outlets in case this issue arises. Has anyone else had this issue and if so, have you found a solution? I'm going to try taking it to my local computer repair shop but in the mean time I thought I'd ask. Thanks!

r/Dell on Reddit: G5 5000 desktop - blinking power light - 2 amber / 4 white when turning on.

G5 5000 desktop - blinking power light - 2 amber / 4 white when turning on.

When I went to turn on my G5 5000 all I got was the blinking power light... some quick searches told me it was a memory error. I only have 1x16gb ram and it is in the second slot from the cpu (the first white tab slot). So I did the only thing I know to do, which is pull the ram and then re-seat it back in the slot. That didn't help at all, as I got the same lights. So I took the ram out again, and I put it in a different computer, and it worked fine. I saw that it showed in the total memory of that computer. So I figure it must be the motherboard. But just for fun, I decided to try the ram in the fourth slot from the cpu (the second white slot), not knowing if this would even work, since all I had ever known was to load memory sticks from near to far from cpu. Well, low and behold, when I powered it on I didn't get any blinking lights... but it went into the Pre-Boot System Performance Check and when finished said there was a critical error (which I knew). However after that I was able to get into Windows, and it has been running fine since. So I guess my initial question is, is it ok to run it in that slot ?

So here's a little bit more to the story (ah!) and trying to determine if I did this to it. As you can see in the attached photo, I have installed the Noctua NH-U9S to help with the well documented underwhelming stock cooler provided. Is there something that I could have done while installing that, that could have shorted out that memory slot ? And does this mean I am stuck with single channel memory forever ? I was just wondering (and haven't tried it yet), does this mean that the first black slot is fried too? And since the second white slot worked, and provided the first black slot works, can I just use the black slots - or does something need to be in the white slots ? Sorry for so many questions, I'm learning on the fly here.

Thanks in advance to any help that can be provided.

- Steve
