I chenged the thermal paste on my notebook( is a vostro 14 3468 from dell) and when I tried to turn it on appears the battery led started to blink 4 amber and 1 white and not charging. I checked everything and didn't found nothing broken I also didn't find anything about it on the internet or Dell website

I apologize if these are stupid questions, but here goes: Is it possible you pinched or damaged one of the wires coming from the battery connections on the motherboard when you reassembled the case? Or, it's just a bad battery.

Memory or Read-Only Memory (ROM) failure If competent, take the memory out and try the following - if there are two DIMMS then try each one in each slot to see if there is any change, if just one DIMM the try both slots and also try no RAM installed and it should produce a 2,3 code. RAM issue, visually inspect it to see if any chip looks damaged on the sticks If no visible damages, install one at the time and see if anything changes If nothing happens after the test you might need new ram, if even with new ram fails, it’s a Motherboard issue

That light sequence indicates a bad battery. When you installed another battery, was it a genuine Dell battery as non Dell batteries can cause that problem. Also try a reset. Disconnect the battery and unplug the adapter. Then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Then reconnect everything and try again.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. The battery is supposed to be genuine and looks exactly the same as the original one. It is properly recognized by Dell Command Power Manager, which does not indicate any issue with the battery. In the detailed infos, it says the battery is a Dell battery manufactured by LG. But the serial number looks a bit strange (only 4 hex digits). I tried your reset procedure, it did not change anything :-(

September 10, 2024 - I don't see a 4 amber/1 white error code listed for Latitude 7440. Many of the laptop batteries you see on that shopping site are total garbage. They may not meet the battery specs for this PC model, regardless of what they claim. The PC and/or your charger may not recognize a non-Dell battery.

(Solution for models with removable RAM sticks) · The issue you're experiencing is due to the CPU overheating, which causes the solder connections on the "SLOT A" memory RAM to become soft and detach from the motherboard. · When you disassemble your laptop, you may notice melted rosin or flux residue. · Unfortunately, there isn't a permanent fix for this. · One temporary solution is to apply pressure to the top of the RAM holders to try and secure a good connection, which might prevent the laptop from displaying the "2 amber + 4 white" error code. · However, the best option is to use "SLOT B" and upgrade the memory stick in that slot. Hi Tempwfox519, Good work on troubleshooting. We will have to check the status of the adapter in BIOS; if the adapter is not detected properly the system will continue to receive power but will not charge the battery. Please follow the steps mentioned below to check if the adapter is detected properly. Start the computer by pressing the power button Press the F2 key 2-3 times You will now be on the BIOS screen Under the Main Tab look for the option that says AC Adapter Type If the Adapter Type says Unknown or None with the adapter plugged in. Reconnect the adapter to the machine and if the status now shows as Unknown then the AC Adapter needs to be replaced.

Hello…thanks for the quick response. I tried what you said. The BIOS states 150W under AC Adapter Type. I also unplugged it to see if the BIOS detected a change, and it did…it stated NONE. So it seems to be detecting ok, right? Something I might not have said in original post is that the light continues to blink whether running on AC power or Battery power. While plugged in, the battery meter always states 'a percentage' 'plugged in' 'not charging'… but battery seems to be charging. Current state is [96% available (plugged-in, not charging). I would think the battery should be a lot less than this by now if not charging. Strange. I just unplugged the battery with the system running to test the battery meter on the battery…shows all led lights lit. However, when I just plugged the battery back in, a Windows message appeared stating 'The model number for the primary battery is non-recommended. The battery cannot provide sufficient power to run the system on battery mode. Please insert a Dell battery for best system operation.' I would had never seen this unless I would have unplugged and replugged the battery with windows running. The original battery and the battery I just purchased are both from Dell. They are 'Dell Battery Module, Type R795X Rating: 11.1V Capacity 90Wh. Hope this helps. Sounds like a system/bios update issue of not detecting the battery properly, right? Thanks again.

What does this mean and is there a fix for it the motherboard boots but as soon as you unplug the ac it shuts off. Also it can do cpu gpu loads as soon as the gpu gets a load it power throttles to .5 ghz so also a power delivery issue

I replaced the battery and nothing, called dell yesterday they said mobo is cooked and I need to get a new one out of warranty. The pricing is quite good for the replacement one 150usd. So I might do that. while I wait for the new one I’ll take a heat gun to the old one and blast it in a last ditch effort to save it.

I've had my XPS 15 (2-in-1) for about 2 years now and it's been a great laptop so far. Recently, my laptop indicator light (front of the laptop, right below touchpad) has been blinking in a specific pattern (4 short amber, 1 long white). While it is blinking, the laptop will immediately shut off if not plugged in. In addition, my battery life has degraded somewhat significantly (from 75 to 38 mWh). These two combine to make it quite difficult to use my computer as a laptop since I am constantly looking for outlets in case this issue arises. Has anyone else had this issue and if so, have you found a solution? I'm going to try taking it to my local computer repair shop but in the mean time I thought I'd ask. Thanks!

4 amber 1 white means a bad battery 90% of the time. The pattern code indicates that the main battery cannot power the system. Seeing that the battery degraded substantially as well, you're likely looking at needing a new battery. If it's under warranty hit dell up and if not i'd buy a new genuine one from ebay (dell part number is TMFYT)
