Currently redoing the primary bath. The current vanity is a 48" double sink from Ikea that has very little counter top space. The wall space it's on is about 68" and I could fit a 60" but it would abut the shower door opening a bit (though the door opens on both sides). Thinking of future homebuyers, would it make more sense to go down to a single sink with more countertop space? Or a double sink with less countertop space? Single would be fantastic since they're significantly cheaper for a nice looking one...but I don't want to shoot myself in the foot!

Unless you have any immediate plans to move, get what you would prefer. Sink count is not a factor in resale value. Personally, lack of counter space is a bigger deal than having dual sinks.

I've gotten some good-quality, solid-wood vanities, through Lowe's. The thing is, you don't buy the in-stock stuff. Sit down with one of their bath specialists and take a look at the special-order stuff from companies like KraftMaid. You should be able to find something nice, for under $1K. More on reddit.com

Yep... what u/ale2011 said.. you need to shorten the vertical pipe above the trap (u shape) because that horizontal after the trap won't drain at that angle. That looks like a long run into the wall, so keep in mind that you may need to add a connector and a small extra length to get it to reach the wall drain after. Oh, and don't forget to reconnect that left side overflow hose again. More on reddit.com

Hi - I’m about to renovate my Brooklyn townhouse and space is tight. The primary bath will be approx 8’x8’ and I can fit in a 48” vanity. Being that it’s the primary - should I make it into a double or keep it as single? I’m worried about the double having very little sink width. If I was buying, I’d be sad to see no counter space with two sinks crammed into 4 ft. So I vote single.

Where do you buy your vanities? We bought a small one from home depot for our rarely-used 1/2 bath, but I am not thrilled with the quality… particle board, ugh. I buy dressers ($30-200) from fb marketplace or Craigslist, remove the top, and add either an off-the-shelf vanity top ($150) from the green big box, or get a custom slab of quartz with an undermount sink ($400) from a local countertop fabricator. I’ve also just cut a hole in the top of a dresser, coated it with a few coats of poly, and dropped in a porcelain sink. So far it’s been fine in a frequently-used bathroom for about five years now.
