Here's my experiences. An on site tech destroyed my Alienware laptop and just left it in pieces with the main board cracked and cooling fins smashed. How? He was supposed to be replacing the screen. He told me to send it in. I sent it in only to have the MB replace with one that didn't have the cooling system properly seated and screws stripped out so it can't be fixed. Warranty expired just after I got it back and they won't fix it or offer an extension. The new screen has the same problem as well. My bandaid solution was to pile thermal pads in the chassis to force the cooling pads onto the CPU with pressure. My son made the mistake of letting Dell connect remotely to diagnose an obviously defective GPU. Within 24 hours his Gmail, PayPal and multiple gaming services were compromised. He's since discovered the value of MFA but a few years ago not everyone required it. He's also learned the value of never logging in as an admin when remote support is required. Dell denied it was them. A fellow employee send in their laptop because it won't charge. Not only did they return it with the problem unresolved, they returned the wrong power supply and wouldn't send the one it came with. It had to go back a second time and we had to buy a replacement power supply. My two positive experiences was with an old Alienware laptop that was 3 years and 6 months into it's 4 year warranty when it popped, smoked, and never turned on again. They replaced it with a current top of the line refurbished model. They replaced a defective power supply on my current laptop after verifying the serial number via photo. More on reddit.com

Premium support I think gives you the ability to send in your device free of charge for them to fix it, along with other stuff.
I got a 4 year warranty on my 15 r2, and I'm damn glad I did.

Register your machine with Dell. When a year is almost up, they will phone you will a super low deal on an extended 2/3 year warranty. They are really motivated (commissioned) and you can ring out a much better price. Of course if it’s accidental damage, then you might want to get that at purchase.
