Good morning,
I bought an MSI PRO B650M-b (without a flashback button) to build with a Ryzen 9 6000X. In my innocence, I thought it would be plug and play, but it seems I need to update the BIOS... Do you know any store/person in the south bank of Lisbon that does this service?
The CPU hasn't arrived yet, but I'm almost sure I need to update the BIOS, from what I've seen online.
Thank you!
UPDATE: It already came with the updated BIOS and recognized the CPU immediately
I have newly bought Gigabyte B650 GAMING X AX ATX AM5 Motherboard and 7800x3D still in boxes
I am waiting for the F6 bios to be released before I start building my system.
When F6 bios comes out, can I update it without inserting the CPU into the motherboard? I aint having that thing explode on me.
Also I wonder how long until F6 actually comes out, I hope its no more than a week? Considering all these voltages discoveries
There is currently F6 but its in beta version still, I dont wanna risk it with a beta version. Or at least waiting for a may beta version

What happens if BIOS does not support the CPU?
Then that means the user will have to update the BIOS to a firmware that does support that particular CPU. You can take 12th Gen Intel Motherboards, for example. It supports all of the 12th Gen and 13th Gen CPUs. But you will need a BIOS update to use any 13th Gen CPU on 12th Gen motherboards.
Can we update BIOS without OS?
Yes, you can update BIOS without the operating system. But you need another PC or laptop to format the USB into the FAT32 file system. That means users will have to use another PC to download and prepare USB to upgrade BIOS on a PC without OS.
Can I do BIOS update without USB?
Yes, you can update your BIOS without a USB. You can download the BIOS update utility or use UEFI firmware settings to help you flash your BIOS without using a USB.
I bought AM5 mobo and I'm afraid it will melt my X3D CPU because of old BIOS. The mobo have Flahsback BIOS button. Can I connect the energy cables and update without installing the CPU?
Apparently need at least a SATA drive connected, which is not a problem. Maybe M2 is also ok?
From Anandtech Review:
For the AM5 platform, AMD is taking matters into their own hands to make USB BIOS Flashback a universal feature. Ryzen 7000 chips will be able to support USB BIOS Flashback mode across the board and regardless of the BIOS currently installed. As a result, users will always be able to flash an updated BIOS to their AM5 boards, regardless of the CPUs supported by or the operational status of the current motherboard.
I have actually never updated a bios before and I saw that after the burned cpu's issue there was a bios patch release to prevent that from happening. I'm just going to assume if I buy a board it will need the bios updated, the question I have is, do I do that bios upgrade before installing the cpu? Or do you install the cpu and then run the bios update?
May be a dumb question but I was buying parts for my new build and I read that motherboards will likely require a bios update to support the new Ryzen 9000 CPUs.
most newer mobo's support BIOS update with no CPU or RAM installed, look up BIOS update for your motherboard
For boards that dont have the flashing festure, like yours seems to, AMD has a plan (well, had).
Seems like AMD may have pulled down the page, but for the 5000-series release, which needed a BIOS update on some boards, AMD had a few suggestions, such as seeing if the seller could update the BIOS or a nearby computer shop could do it for you.
The interesting option was to borrow one; AMD would loan out a low-end APU so you could update BIOS and swap to your new CPU.
Not sure if they'll do that again, but it was an option.
Hey everybody I got Gigabyte B650 gaming X AX V2 motherboard and a ryzen 7 9700x.
I’m building my pc tonight, and wondering how to go about getting the right bios. I’m pretty confident I’ll need to update the bios of the motherboard but how do I do that? I understand how to download it onto a flash drive, but how will I then update it without a CPU? Will it work without? And when should I do it in the build? I would prefer to do all the building at once, and then start sticking flash drives and what not in, but if the first thing I should do is unbox the power supply and motherboard and connect those two and then stick a flash drive in and it’ll update itself I’ll do that. And if I do that do I need to put RAM in?
tldr; how to update motherboard bios when the current bios doesn’t support the CPU I’m putting in.
I am using the gigabyte b650 aorus elite ax with a 7700x
I've brought Pro WS W680-ACE that supports 14th gen processor with BIOS update so I also brought 14700. It has BIOS Flashback so I thought I can do it without a 12th or 13th gen processor.
But when I went to download the latest BIOS it's showing that
Before BIOS update, please download the Intel ME update tool from the ASUS support site and update the ME firmware to Version 16.1.35.2557. to ensure optimized system settings.
How can I update the ME firmware before hand? I don't have 12 or 13 gen spare processor :(
SOLVED:
The motherboard was already updated to a newer (not latest) version that supported 14th gen CPUs
