What are the onboarding requirements for a driver to start hauling Amazon loads?
A carrier needs to invite their drivers to create a profile in the Relay app. Drivers will then need to complete identity verification by submitting a selfie and a photo of their driver’s license. Finally, drivers will need to provide details to initiate a background check - all drivers onboarding to Relay must meet standardized background check requirements before hauling Amazon Relay loads.

Just for shits and giggles I signed up for relay. Now I'm out west so maybe in the east it's different BUT You cannot sustain a business on $1.40 to $1.65 a mile freight Totally not worth my time

Nowadays is not really worth working with them. I mean, it doesn’t cost you much to sign up with them either. You just need to add trailer interchange and commercial general liability which can go from $1k to $2k a year. If you want to sign up to have it ready just in case - that’s fine. But working for them right now is more of a waste of time. Amazon doesn’t care if it’s sustainable to operate your truck or not. They price their loads based on demand. I guess some people like to work for pennies and that’s what they offer right now. Last week one of my OO damaged his trailer and had to leave it at a shop for a week. He did a few runs with Amazon while his trailer was being fixed. There were just a few loads available with inconvenient schedules and paid with pennies. After all deductions were taken (loans, fuel and insurance) he took home less than a driver salary. I am looking right now on their load board and within 75 miles of Chicago they have only 7 loads. All of them pay between $1.39 to $1.68, except one that pay $2.70 a mile but you have to drive 55 miles to pick it up, it has 4 legs and pays $375 for 138 loaded miles (plus whatever empty miles you will have). According to their schedule, it will take almost 8 hours to finish it. This shouldn’t take more than 3 hours to complete. The reason they stretched the schedule so far is because they don’t want to pay $130 - $200 for each individual leg, as a separate load and they bundled it in 4 legs, giving the impression that they pay $2.70 a mile. What is not mentioned there is that you have to wait about 1 hour, maybe more, between each leg. And that is unpaid which means time waisted. $2.70/mile is not bad for this market but if it takes 8-9 hours to make $375 than you are 2 weeks away from bankrupt. Also, making $375 in 8-9 hours as a driver, that’s very good. But working with your own truck, fuel, insurance and tolls, just to name a few major expenses, is absolutely ludicrous. And it doesn’t matter if your truck is paid off or not. A few years ago (Covid times) was completely different. There was a good amount of loads that were fairly priced. Not just per mile but for time also. I was always a fan of short loads (5-30 miles). Loads that take 1-3 hours and paid $200-$500 a load. By the end of the day I made between $1200-$2000. I could spend the nights at home. Weekends too. I could pay all my expenses and still had time to enjoy my life. As you can see today is a completely different picture.
