Can I trust AMI (American Megatrends, Inc) ?
AMI is an IBV (independent bios vendor) just like Insyde, Phoenix, etc. They provide closed-source UEFI firmware to mainboard/system manufacturers. Their open-source offering is just a packaging of Intel's edk2 UEFI reference firmware. AFAICT, tt doesn't offer support for anything other than a handful of Intel reference boards. You cannot flash this on any actual hardware without adding support for that specific hardware, same as with coreboot More on reddit.com

Most likely your cmos battery run out of juice and must be replaced. CR2032 (that's the type of battery) is available online at amazon for dime a dozen and available in drugstores and walmarts, bestbuys, etc. More on reddit.com

February 7, 2022Can’t get past American Megatrends screen on first boot
Dude this happened one week ago to me with a similar build. The dumbass in me plugged a USB C cable in a wrong port (god knows which port) and it was triggering the same error. I ended removing that cable and then it started working back. FWIW, check that the IO shield is not interfering with any port. More on reddit.com

In general, the BIOS/UEFI manufacturer owner has the back door. Is this the same case on AMI? Because apparently it's open source
I use a desktop PC with a motherboard that is compatible with AMI
(I know AMI is not coreboot but I have no choice because AMI doesn't have the subreddit)

American Megatrends has been around for a very long time, the company is trustworthy. If you want to know whether or not the UEFI is stable, it probably is. But who knows with closed source shit.
