r/appletv on Reddit: New Apple TV and all apps just tells me to check internet connection
May 23, 2025 -
I've tried resetting, restarting, ethernet, wifi and the device is around 2 hours old. Updated to latest software but whenever I click any app it just says I gotta check internet connection. And in network it all works, the router isn't the problem because all my other devices work splendidly.
Anyone know what to do?

On the ATV, go to Settings > Network. What do you see? Is it Ethernet or WiFi connection? If you have an Ethernet port, try a wired connection and see if you have the same experience, You might just need to unplug the power cable to the ATV, wait 15 secs and then plug it back in. Then check to see if you have a recognized internet connection. Make sure the power cord is plugged in properly into the ATV. Does your internet connection hardware recognize the ATV is on the network?

Hi. Apple TV has a history of trouble with its ethernet connection in some situations, see link: AppleTV 3 floods DHCP when ethernet connected. I know my Apple TV 4 does this. If your device works fine over WiFi, but not over ethernet, check the router logs for unusual activity coming from Apple TV. You should all report this to Apple at this link: Feedback - Apple TV - Apple.

Me too, load times are quicker and there is almost no buffering when going through wifi instead, which is a bummer because i prefer the straight connection to the ethernet cable (so i can take advatage of the gigablast speeds). My internet locks up too for other devices. Initially i thought it was a faulty ethernet port stalling my network, but i think its a software bug.Hopefully apple fixes this soon...
