If you are not experiencing problems, the usual advice is to not update. The reason is that a failed flash might brick your motherboard or at least send you down a recovery path that you are unprepared for. Interrupting the process will cause a problem. That is why it is advised to use a usb flash process and not the internet which can fail. During a flash, nothing will appear to be happening. For perhaps 15 minutes. Do not get antsy and stop the process to start over. If you are having a problem and there is a bios update that looks like it might fix it, then by all means flash. Ryzen is tightly tied to ram and ram compatibility issues are regularly updated. When a new bios is in place, it will be the default bios so make any changes you need to. On a new build, I will flash immediately to currency. If anything fails, there is little impact. Answer from geofelt on forums.tomshardware.com

Should I update the BIOS on my Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero ?
Thanks for any help! Edit: I restarted my machine and decided to go into bios for the first time, and by god it was so laggy, also stuck on AA Q-Code which could mean nothing or something. Specs: CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X Motherboard: Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero More on forums.tomshardware.com

Problems with BIOS update Rog Crosshair Hero VIII
Just reset the CMOS using the button on the back of your PC. You probably disabled the splash screen by accident when you were upgrading the BIOS. Also, as someone who owns that board, I'd strongly recommend NOT updating the BIOS unless something is wrong. BIOS updates screwed mine up to where I can no longer run my RAM at its intended speeds without constant crashing. More on reddit.com

r/ASUS on Reddit: Problems with BIOS update Rog Crosshair Hero VIII
December 8, 2023 -

After the logoFail vulnerability was disclosed I downloaded the latest BIOS (4702) for my mobo. Used the EZ Flash inside the BIOS to update, which seemed successful, and then continued with the restart when prompted. However upon restart my system seemed to hang indefinitely with the mobo error code d6 which is "no console output detected." I pressed restart after waiting quite a few minutes and my system seemed to boot fine except it completely skipped the Asus splash screen and went directly to Windows. This concerned me so I attempted to restart and enter the BIOS to no avail. Spamming the delete key constantly from the moment of restart till the Windows login screen appeared did nothing. I tried using the advanced startup options to restart directly into the UEFI but it still boots directly to Windows. I then used the mobo BIOS flash button and a thumb drive with the new BIOS on it to reinstall it, just in case the install was botched, but after the BIOS reinstalled I still have the exact same issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated because my anxiety is about through the ceiling. Thanks.

Edit: Solved

Ok, this was extremely weird but just in case anyone else has this problem and nothing else works try this if you have an Nvidia card.

1 - Go to:https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/nv-uefi-update-x64/

2 - Download the file there and run it and if a firmware update is needed let it update it.

3 - Restart your PC and see if you get the normal splash screen and are able to access your BIOS

r/ASUS on Reddit: Can't enter or update BIOS on Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero with AMD Ryzen 5950X
December 3, 2020 -

I just built a new computer with Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero (wifi) and a Ryzen 5950X, but the computer stops booting after showing the Press F2 or Del flash screen. It will not enter BIOS. I have tried multiple keyboards on multiple USB ports.

I figured it might be the BIOS version having a conflict with my CPU, so I tried using the USB BIOS Flashback utility where you plug a USB stick into a specific USB port marked BIOS and press the BIOS flash button on the back of the motherboard until it starts blinking.

The result is that the button blinks a few times, then goes solid blue and nothing happens. The activity light on the USB stick also blinks once.

I have the correct filename (C8H.CAP), using the 2702 version of the BIOS, as indicated here, nothing else on the USB stick, formatted to FAT32, file in root, no other partitions, I have tried with a USB2 and USB3 stick.

I also have a post Q code 02 which means "AP initialization before microcode loading". I have seen that might indicate a power issue, but I can't figure out what that could be. My GPU, CPU and 24 pin are all connected as they should be and the PSU has worked fine in my old computer.

Am I missing something obvious here?
