Is AVG antivirus legit?
Yes, at the core AVG and Avast are identical in the antivirus and behavior detection technology. The only differences are more about a couple features that Avast Free has vs AVG free. I think any of the paid editions has the same VPN, CCleaner, and Driver updaters as well. Basically just a slightly different coat of paint for exactly the same product, no idea why they haven't merged/migrated AVG customers to Avast. AVG and Avast are both owned by Gen Digital who also owns Norton LifeLock and Avira. For the time being those other 2 products use their own AV technologies, no idea about VPN or Password Manager infrastructure though. More on reddit.com

Avast and AVG merged and both got increasingly corrupt with adware and bad performance. With ublock origin and Windows Defender doing so much heavy lifting these days, I can see why they are so desperate. More on reddit.com

ATTN ALL: Avoid AVG like the plague.
They have a free trial that auto renews for an annual subscription without any prior notification, and when you contact them they'll agree to cancel and refund (after many efforts to keep some of your money), and even then they'll give you a case number for the refund and just not do it. I'm currently listening to hold music a month after my refund was supposed to arrive and they still have my account active, and are still trying to route me around their extremely unhelpful support ecosystem.
You'd be better off returning to monkey than bothering to protect yourself with AVG, don't give them any of your info, they're absolutely corrupt.
