I work for one of the big 5 Banks and have heard about layoffs that have been happening recently in banks and across many other industries too. It's only been a month of 2024, so I assume this is only the start? It's kind of scary to think about making a good income, and then having close to no income, and job searching in this really bad job market.
Does anyone else know about any layoffs happening? If so, what industries/roles/departments? What are your backup plans?
Apparently as many as 7,000 U.S. Bank employees throughout North America were laid off today with the next round coming November 15th.
Layoffs affected most business lines and reportedly were targeted towards grades 13-16 (senior individual contributors to middle managers).
Many teams lost multiple people and although rumors abounded, they were given little warning that their jobs were in jeopardy.
I’ve heard from 10+ people affected but 25+ people who were not but know several who were in their areas.
Tomorrow should be an eye opener at the bank.
Were you affected or know someone who was?
