Hey everyone.
I recently bought a new duvet cover (cotton percale) and the lightest down comforter I could find. Despite keeping the room at 64 degrees at night, I'm still hot.
What material would you guys recommend for a hot sleeper like me? Cotton insert? Something else?
If you have any specific products in mind, all I want is a king-sized insert that has loops on the corners so I can tie the insert to the drawstrings that are built into the duvet cover.
Thanks you!
UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who responded. I appreciate all the good suggestions. I ended up buying the Your Moon wool blanket. Checked all the boxes of what I was looking for: All natural materials, corner loops, lightweight will still having some heft, and very reasonably priced.
Used it last night for the for the first time and couldn't have been happoer. It was perfect.
Definitely recommend it for other hot sleepers.
Anyone out there a hot sleeper that still gets a little cold/likes to be cozy in bed?? Because that’s me!!
¯_(ツ)_/¯ I dunno, it is what it is haha I just want to be cozy and stop sweating lol
I’m usually a little cold until I fall asleep (I prefer to sleep at 69F/20C), at which point, I start giving off a lot of body heat! My partner is also a hot sleeper!
I’d prefer a natural material over synthetics, if possible! I also like the weight of a heavier duvet, I just get so dang hot! I also currently have a linen duvet cover, if that makes a difference.
Would love to hear any recommendations!!

I'm aware this is a fairly common topic here, but I'm looking for a super puffy but still cool duvet insert. Honestly at any price point, I just wanna know that it exists. After truly months of research and much to my dismay, I'm reaching the conclusion it doesn't exist. Down is historically hot despite its puffiness. Silk is the flattest, most depressing thing I've seen despite its heat regulating qualities. I'm not gonna do wool, I refuse to believe it's cool with any amount of puffiness. I also refuse to pay double for two thin comforters to achieve puffiness, and also doubt that'd be cool with any comforter. Somehow the most solid middle grounds I've found have been down alternatives.
I'd also like to pose the question, if it doesn't in fact exist - why? If you're gonna tell me "oh well high volume means more air and air is a natural insulator" yeah I know, and I do not care. We as consumers deserve more. They're starting to weave heat regulating fibers into clothes, why can't we have them woven into bedding? They've put a man on the moon, you mean to tell me we don't have the technology to make a puffy comforter that's also not hellishly hot?
At this point my impression of this space is there's a massive lack of innovation - I feel like bedding has such great legacy brands that other newcomers aren't willing to innovate to TRULY eclipse those brands in quality and instead are just trying to copy them at lower price points. The newest change in the space has been bamboo / tencel which frankly isn't offering anything new to the industry. Why aren't we trying the reinvent the wheel here? Everyone constantly complains about this issue, along with durability, bang for buck, etc. why have I seen zero solutions to any of these problems actually be presented in such a massive industry?
Just came here to say that, at least for me, I stopped sweating and sleeping hot when I changed to a 100% goose down duvet.
For years I thought it was the sheets, mattress, medications, very early menopause, diet.
No. It was the “down alternative” duvet filled with typical polyester fiberfill. I’ve had a variety of these over the years from different brands but they all have roughly the same filling. Fiberfill does not breathe. It traps heat in a bad way. This is the problem.
Even though my new real down duvet is objectively much warmer I don’t feel hot and suffocated. I don’t sweat. I don’t wake up needing to stick my leg out. I actually sleep through the night.
I hope this helps someone.
My stack is a TCS 100% goose down duvet, Stearns & Foster Lux Hybrid (memory foam + innerspring) mattress, and Costco cotton sheets.
ETA: Make sure your pajamas are not polyester or synthetic blend too. Cotton is the way.
Our duvet cover finally gave out and the zipper is ripping off. Also SO ans I are hot sleepers.
I like the silkiness of bamboo but also run hot- linen sounds like it. But I’ve heard that bamboo also helps when people feel hot?
Any weigh ins for people who’ve tried both? Ang weigh ins on brands?
Help!!
I feel like I am looking for a unicorn and would appreciate some help. I’m looking for a duvet insert that would meet the below criteria listed in order of preference if it doesn’t exist. I’ve spent too much jumping between multiple comforters and just want to be comfy in my sleep space
Not real down
Fluffy and stays fluffy over time
Not super warm
Heavy-ish. I like to feel “weight” when I’m sleeping, but can also use blankets if need be.
I’m looking for a Queen size, would love to spend under $100, but could spend up to $200 if there’s a huge difference between the budgets. Also bonus points if it’s on Amazon bc I have gift cards.
My partner and I are both hot sleepers but want a fluffy looking comforter or duvet. Ideally something that is also clean, safe and hypoallergenic (trying to avoid plastics, polyester). Any recs? Thanks!!
Hiya! Wondering if anyone can recommend a good comforter for my partner and I? We originally loved the feel of the MUJI comforter but they haven’t restocked their comforters in weeks and we can find anywhere to buy one. We are looking for something very soft that also works well for my partner who is a very hot sleeper! Any recommendations will be very appreciated! :))
Hi,
I am looking for the ideal duvet insert, which for me would mean both fluffy yet cool, as I sleep rather hot. I have tried several ones, but never found the one...any recommendation ? which kind of material should I look for ? I have tried the following :
- 100% Silk duvet (Ikea) : good temperature-wise, but it's very thin and doesn't have any of that fluffyness / volume which I like.
- 4-season duvet made out of 50% polyester microfibre, 25% duck down and 25% duck feathers : super fluffy and comfortable, unfortunately too hot, I end up waking up sweating...
- Cotton weighted blanket : tried it for a while, but didn't like it too much, it doesn't have the fluffy feeling and was also keeping me too hot.
I know I sound difficult. But is there perhaps anything else a solution I haven't considered yet ? Do they make fluffy silk duvets (I didn't find any) ? I assume that a 100% down/feather duvet is gonna be just as hot than the one I have ?
Thanks !
Looking for recs for a nice cooling king size comforter.
My husband and I are roasting each other.
Looking to spend upwards of $250-300
Thanks in advance!
Hello, I’m in need of a new duvet/blanket. I don’t care how much it costs as long as it’s worth it. Trying to find something that is thick and kind of heavy but has to be soft. The other issue is I run hot! I’m worried about over heating but I love being cozy under thick blankets!! I know this is a big ask! I’m looking for a queen size and prefer blankets that are naturally heavy and not weighted. Machine washable would be an amazing plus! Thank you!!!
Someone gave me a beautiful and extremely fluffy down duvet before the winter began this year and I’ve become spoiled by its pillowy, cloud-like feeling. But as the days get warmer, it’s beginning to get uncomfortably hot at night. Is it possible to find a thick and fluffy summer duvet that will stay somewhat cool? I did some light research at the mall but all the cool duvets I found were disappointingly flat. If you have any tips for me, I’d appreciate them!
I currently have the Parachute all season down duvet insert with the West Elm Silky Tencel duvet cover. I live in Texas and my second floor gets incredibly hot. I wake up drenched in sweat every night. Any recommendations on a different duvet insert?! Thanks!
I would love any recommendations on a good duvet insert for hot sleepers, I want something thats good quality, but affordable, however, I am willing to spend the money on a great duvet insert.
Appreciate the help, and would also appreicate on which fabric to buy for a duvet cover thats good for hot sleepers.
Thanks!
My title probably covered it all. No matter how low I turn my AC, I wake up sweating. My current comforter and duvet aren't great and I think both have polyester.
I'm an animal lover and can't support down or feather but I really miss the super plush company store down comforters my best friend had when we were kids. Basically I'd like it as plush as possible but not hot.
Does anyone have something like this that they can recommend?
Searching for a cooling comforter that doesn’t trap in heat at night when I sleep. We run the apt ac temp low and have a fan going at night. I still get really hot at night and my comforter doesn’t help. Any recommendations?
I am currently using an empty duvet because I get hot when I sleep
But I love the fluffy feeling of one. Is there a duvet that is thin/don’t get too warm?? Not sure there is such a thing.
