Anyone here buy a cheap extra firm innerspring mattress, then layer foam, latex, and/or pillow top toppers on it to your preference?
You can also DIY a bed that way on the inside of the mattress. you buy a cover. inside it you can put latex foam firm on the bottom, or springs, and then layer on top of that foam or springs. Look around and see. then exchange layers to get the bed you want. More on reddit.com

Apparently you have to spend 3k if you want a soft innerspring mattress now
The bed industry has changed. All corporate owned now so cheaper fillings with a guarantee that the bed will last a few years rather than the 10-15 a great bed did 20 years ago. I am a small female, 130 pounds that falls asleep on my side but always ends up on her back. Hence I loved pillow tops that were soft but firm enough not to cave in for 12-15 years. I am finding it very difficult to find such a bed again. They all want to cave in too quickly. Just bought one 2 months ago that started to cave in within a week. I would half wake up in the middle of the night feeling the need to slide over to the very edges of the bed where it was firm. Would fall asleep again only to move towards the middle but when I did I would awaken again with the very uncomfortable feeling I was rolling down hill. LOL. BTW, that bed was a $3500 model. The only other bed I have found so far is so firm but it appears as if it will last longer but that would then require some sort of topper in order to add some softness I am at the point where i just might consider a $1200 cheap bed that feels comfy on my back knowing it will fall apart in 3-4 years and the hunt for the perfect bed can be put off a few more years. :) More on reddit.com

Innerspring only; no gel, no foam?!
Please know that coils are not the same thing as innersprings, although most salespeople will argue that with you. Coils are smaller and use higher gauge wire (higher gauge equals thinner and cheaper wire). Innersprings like the traditional Bonnell Innerspring (which has a slight bouncy feel to it) uses larger gauge wire and is shaped like and hour glass. Coils collapse under pressure, springs resist weight thereby providing actual support. You can still find traditional innersprings but keep in mind that most people do not know or recognize the difference so you could end up getting something you don’t want. Look up bonnell innersprings mattress on google if that’s what you’re looking for. I strongly recommend them as innersprings last forever and provide actual support, top with a foam topper (I recommend a medium feel foam from foam factory, not the HQ which is way to firm) and you’re set for many years. People also ask

How long does an innerspring mattress last?
Most traditional innersprings begin to sag after five or six years of continuous use, making them the least durable mattress type on average. Hybrids tend to last longer because of the extra cushioning layers between your body and the support core. Latex hybrids are especially long-lasting and can perform for eight years or longer if properly maintained.

Best Innerspring Mattresses of 2025: Coil & Spring Support
What sleeping position is best for an innerspring mattress?
Since traditional innersprings don’t contain much cushioning material, they may not feel soft and adaptive enough for side sleepers. If you sleep on your side and own an innerspring, a mattress topper may provide the extra cushioning you need. Back and stomach sleepers typically don’t need as much padding and may find innersprings more comfortable as a result.

Best Innerspring Mattresses of 2025: Coil & Spring Support
How much does an innerspring mattress cost?
The average traditional innerspring costs between $500 and $1,200 in a queen size. Hybrids cost a bit more, with the average queen model priced between $1,000 and $3,000. Buying online tends to be cheaper than purchasing a mattress at a brick-and-mortar store.

Innerspring vs. Memory foam mattress???
I had to get used to not having the springs as I flipped from one side to the other. But by the 3rd night, I was used to it. The mattress has held up great the first year. No dips anywhere. I sleep just as well as I did on a coil. It is not too firm and not too plush.
