Hi fellas, I need some help. Photo one is my (29m) living room. Mostly going for MCM with some japandi mixed in. Photo 2 is immediately to the left of photo one; My modestly small kitchen and the only place a dining table could possible go.

My problem. The area I marked is 46 by 24

Every good looking bar table I have found it 47.25 and would absolutely not fit in that space.

The lines in the center would be a 24x24 table were I to find one.

Anyhow. I desperately need dining table suggestions. I’ve been eating on the couch for 3 months and it feels uncouth.

Looking for buy it for life folding dining tables and chairs for family parties etc. Would prefer a more upscale look (padded seats, not hard aluminum or plastic). Not expecting it to be as good as a normal dining chair, just enough for the family to not talk ish that you throw terrible parties with uncomfortable seating lol

We're movingn into a new apartment and I'm venturing into a minimalist lifestyle at home, so the more space I can create and have functional items that can be stored away when not in use would be fantastic. I'm thinking about replacing my 4 seat dining table with a 4ft foldable table but am stupidly concerned with how it looks (not the prettiest sight). But I'm not really asking if I should.. but I guess I'm just excited about the change and wanted to know if any.of you out there have done the same.

I cook a ton at home but rarely have guest over to eat. Its always just my husband and I that eat at the dining table like once a month, other than that it collects random mail and other random things we seem to place on top of it.

The main reason why I never got rid of it is because my husband and his friend need a table for their DJ set to practice and this is weekly. Also, I like having the option of having a table to do anything crafty or for when we invite friends for game night.

I'm furnishing a small living room and want to buy a foldable table.

I've narrowed it down to three models:

  • Danderyd

  • Norden

  • Pinntorp

Does anyone have any experience with these tables? How sturdy are they? Are there better alternatives?

Can anyone advise on extendable dining tables? I'm looking for something which can either attach to my wall or extend laterally from some kind of standing cabinet. I found some stuff from Chinese retailers but they look like a scam. Any cool ideas here? The space in the attached image is about 8x8' and the lowest shelf is about 4'5".

r/HomeDecorating on Reddit: Folding Dining Tables Are Quite Good For Daily Use
August 6, 2025 -

Last week, I replaced the gigantic dining table with a folding one as I had moved to a smaller apartment. Frankly speaking, this was a tough choice, but it had to be made, and I like that I did it. The dining table folds in seconds, it is space-saving, and it remains quite fashionable when eating single meals or having dinner with family.

They are not all wooden. In case you're wondering, they also come in lightweight aluminum tables that can be easily moved but can become unsteady when one leans too far on one side. The wooden and composite tables are heavier and sturdier, like real tables.

I thought the standard tables sold in the local shops were more basic and of an outdoor style, and did not suit my apartment. I found broader selection searching online for options. I discovered smooth folding tables, even those with wall-mounting and convertible types, which can also be used as workstations. The diversity and current fashion made me change to a folding table for furniture, and its accessories. I must say that I've had my own fair share of luck shopping on Shopify and even Alibaba.

A folding dining table is a smart buy in case you have little room or want to have multiple uses.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a counter height, foldable dining room table?

I don’t have room in my apartment for a dining room table 24/7, but if I rearrange I could have one temporarily for the occasions I have friends & family over for dinner.

I don’t have a lot of storage in my apartment so it needs to be foldable so I can store it in a closet (like a card table with folding legs) and it also needs to be counter height so I can use my existing kitchen island stools. I know there are actual card tables with adjustable heights, but I would prefer something that looked a bit nicer.

I have a weird living room with some extra space on one side, and I'd like to try and get an 8-person dining table in there...The space is about 5x8', but sees a lot of foot traffic. I'm hoping to find a table that will stuff against the wall and sit a couple people there, but can be pulled out and expanded somehow to seat 8. I could create more temporary space by, like, pushing my couch forward if necessary

I was thinking something tall about 3ft wide...Maybe one side folds down, or the whole thing extends? Perhaps a few of the chairs could be folded while the rest push all the way in when not in use...

I don't even know what to search for...Collapsing? Folding? Expanding? Convertible?

I might be pissing in the wind here, but I've seen some clever solutions to tight spaces, so I figured I'd ask!

February 2, 2023 - The idea is to use melawood (1100mm x 750mm) and attach 85mm x 750mm wood for legs. The legs will be attached to one side with hinges (swing 90 degrees) so that it can also fold to save space and then the other side of the table will also have hinges to swing (90 degrees) from a walk cabinet

October 26, 2016 - My kitchen is tiny and I don't have a table in there because it takes up so much space! This is a perfect solution. Thanks for posting! ... If you didn't already purchase the one pictured, this is another popular choice from IKEA. It may be a better fit if you're not looking to mount something to the wall. ... Your suggestion is better IMO, as it doesn't look quite so 'ugly' when not in use, and when fully extended can easily seat 4 people. ... Love folding stuff!

March 12, 2017 - This one is about $650, which I could never real justify on spending for such a small table! The Etsy one is still a bit high but much better lol, I never thought to look there. Thank you! ... I'm really not a fan of stuff that has to be set up. I would just end up leaving it open 100% of the time out of laziness/place to put things down. Looks stylish though and makes sense. Apparently "folding wall mounted tables" are a thing.

Hello everyone,

I'm in the market for a folding table and would love some recommendations. Here are a few things I'm looking for:

  1. Durability: It should be sturdy enough for regular use.

  2. Portability: Easy to fold and carry, preferably lightweight.

  3. Size: Versatile for different uses—indoors for extra dining space, outdoors for picnics or camping.

  4. Material: Open to suggestions but prefer something easy to clean and maintain.

  5. Price Range: Budget-friendly but willing to invest a bit more for quality.

I've seen a lot of options online and in stores, but it's overwhelming. If you have any personal favorites or reliable brands that you swear by, please share!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Here's some advice to help you narrow down your folding table options:

Material:

  • Plastic: Affordable, lightweight, easy to clean, and comes in various sizes. However, some plastic tables can be flimsy.

  • Aluminum: More durable than plastic, lightweight, and rust-proof. A good option for outdoor use.

  • Wood: Adds a touch of style, can be quite sturdy, but heavier and requires more maintenance. Consider treated wood for outdoor use.

Brands:

  • Lifetime: Known for their durable and affordable plastic folding tables.

  • Cosco: Offers a variety of folding tables at different price points, good balance of affordability and quality.

  • LEGGI: Makes high-quality aluminum folding tables that are lightweight and portable.

  • High Point: Offers a wider range of materials, including wood, for a more stylish option.

Features to Consider:

  • Folding Mechanism: Look for a table that folds easily and locks securely when open.

  • Carry Handle: Makes transporting the table a breeze.

  • Adjustable Height: Some tables offer adjustable legs for added versatility.

  • Cup Holders: A nice feature for outdoor use.

Finding the Perfect Table:

  • Size: Think about how many people you typically need to seat and what activities you'll be using the table for.

  • Weight Capacity: Ensure the table can handle the weight you'll need it to support.

  • Price: Look for deals and compare features before you buy.

Remember: Reading online reviews can be helpful for getting real-world user experiences on different folding tables.

I hope this helps! Don't hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.

Hi! I've been requested to build a dining table for my family, since I've done some basic furniture renovations and a full bathroom rebuild before. I made the plans, I've calculated the material volume and cost, but I would like to ask you all, if whether for example I can go lower on the metal parts, since I've couldn't find anything about it on the net (that I understood at least).

Here is the preview:

And these are the (rough) plans, all written in mm.

Some key functionalities:

  • It is foldable into a 140 mm (5.5 in) x 1300 mm (51.2 in) x 750 mm (29.5 in) block. While open, it is a 1300 mm (51.2 in) x 1300 mm (51.2 in) x 750 mm (29.5 in) table. (I had strict space restrictions).

  • The table itself will have some magnets, for easy "clicky" results, also to hopefully prevent moving all around when folded.

  • Some spring guided clips, that holds the legs in place while in opened state.

  • It should be around 42 kg (92.5 pounds) (if weights on the websites were correct).

  • It should cost roughly 55-69 USD (20-25.000 HUF).

Now, the key questions:

  • For the tabletop, is it enough If a glue the planks together, and support them with those wooden dowel thingies, so there are no visible screws (also I can't screw it in from the bottom, since an another plank would restrict the folding of the legs).

  • Can I go lower on the hollow section size? Currently it is 25 mm (0.98 in) x 25 mm (0.98 in) with a width of 2 mm (0.08 in). It should help with the weight issue.

  • And do you see anything that won't work in your opinion, I am open for discussions or tips, since it is a project which helps me blow off steam after a day of work, and I like getting to know more and more (building stuff is kind of-, and kind of not a hyperfixation rn.)

So yeah, what are your thoughts? I am sure, all of y'all are more seasoned builders than me. Haha.

(I will post images when and while I build it, also I have an idea with a table where I stick brass sheets between walnut or other dark wood planks for the tabletop, so it has a rough, dark finish with a bit of shiny metal accents)
