Jump Desktop works well for me. Can download it to your mac and sign in to your account. Then you can control the mac from your iPad on any wifi connection. Mouse works perfectly for me, and I presume trackpad will work as well. It’s not technically VNC, but I don’t think you’ll care lol. They also support VNC though if you wanna set that up instead.
