Been mattress shopping for a few weeks now and its brutal. One person gives a mattress 5 stars, best sleep ever, and the next person says its garbage and the worst mattress they've ever tried.

So rather than risk it with a super-expensive mattress, I'm going to go the Costco route. Looks like there are a lot of options from Leesa to Casper to Simply Modern to whatever else.

Out of all the options at costco, I'm wondering what the best choice is? Let's say $1600 or less...

I'm leaning toward the Leesa Legend Hybrid or Casper. Would loooove some help here! I'm so nervous about making the wrong call!

Last year we bought a Stearns Foster from Costco...we hated it, it was way too stiff for us. Sent it back after 6 weeks and got a different one...I don't remember which one...at first it was great but within 3 months it was way too soft. Sent that one back and got Costco's tempur pedic. That was 9 months ago and we still love it. Best sleep ever. Costco's return service was perfect.... same crew each time. They picked up and dropped off same day...let me take pictures for proof of pick up. It couldn't have been easier. I'm not saying you should get the same mattress we did, I'm saying if you get one you don't like the return process is easy.

It looks like the $1,800 Tempur-Pedic and $1,400 Avocado are highly rated as top-tier options in this sub—can anyone confirm? I’m thinking about going all-in on the best since I’m returning my Sealy Carver Firm after a few years of sagging and back pain.

Update: Ordered the Novaform Legacy Premier since it seems firmer than the Leesa Legend. From what I’ve gathered, the Avocado is the better choice if I want something less firm compared to the Leesa Legend. Novaform was on sale, while Avocado wasn’t, so I figured I’d try Novaform for now. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll wait for Avocado to go on sale and return/exchange.

I think that the best is a matter of opinion. I bought an avocado mattress from Costco a couple of weeks ago and I love it.

Don’t have experience with either, but I recently bought a mattress from Costco and my approach was - start with the cheaper option you’re considering, and if you don’t like it after a few months, return and upgrade to next expensive one. Rinse and repeat until you find a mattress that works for you. Thats the best way to maximize savings while utilizing the Costco return policy responsibly, imo.

We're replacing a queen that we bought many years ago from Costco. Its not a great mattress but has served its purpose.

I find foam mattresses way too hot and by conforming to the body, make it way too difficult to move. We purchased an Aviya innerspring mattress a few years ago and continue to be happy with it.

If you want a somewhat budget option, the Novaform 14” is pretty good for the price. I’ve got mine at $399, and it’s been good for me.

Looking for people to post positive experiences they’ve had with Costco mattresses. What was your process? What kind of sleeper? What did you settle on?

I’ve been cycling through quite a few mattresses from Costco. I’m 5’8” 160 pounds with back/neck pain and insomnia worsened by Lyme disease. I sleep on my back. My wife is 5’6” 130 pounds and a side sleeper. She can sleep anywhere. I’ve been having quite a bit of trouble with my sleep. For all of the beds, I broke them in over the first few weeks and rotated them regularly. The mt auburn was too firm for me and generally didn’t feel all that great. It was a decent mattress overall but wasn’t it for me. Like most mattresses without a softer pressure relieving layer, it caused hip stiffness and pain. Sealy posturepedic ridge crest was a step up. The euro top added a decent layer of comfort, but the bed started hammocking within a few months and became uncomfortable to me as I really like an even surface. My wife liked this bed though. We briefly tried the 12” sleep science Sonoma flippable mattress but I couldn’t last more than an hour on it. It felt cheap and unsupportive. The novaform serafina is a decent feeling but firm mattress that I occasionally sleep on at my parents house. Well constructed but I find it to not have enough pressure relief (though maybe it’s not well broken in). The Sleep science 13” Napa is my favorite of them all, but it only comes in a split king and I already have an adjustable base. The memory foam comfort layer is thin but relieves pressure, and the latex layer under that does a great job of easing you into the denser foam beneath. I’ve only slept on it once and it felt great, but when I demo it or lay on it, it feels amazing. Kirkland Stearns and Foster. I had this for the longest, about a year. I wanted to keep this mattress forever but there were a few flaws that ended up disrupting my sleep. The quality of construction and materials feels great. While it came firm, it broke in nicely and was a premium feeling mattress. I ended up adding a 1.5” inch cooling memory foam topper to add just a bit of pressure relief and it felt perfect for a while. After about 9 months, the body indents were starting to make my shoulders shrug upward. The kings ridge pressed on my side as well. And the edge support is too wide, as those springs wear differently than the main support coils. All of these things together caused the usable sleep area to be quite small on the king mattress and it stopped being supportive/comfortable to me. If this stayed how it felt I’d have kept it. Tempur pedic flex prima hybrid. This is the bed I’m currently on, it’s been about 2 weeks, so I don’t have a full review of it, but it’s been decent. I like how uniform the surface feels. It’s quite firm right now, but I’m expecting it to break in a little bit. If it’s a 7.5 firm right now, I think the bed will be great at a 6 or 6.5. It provides great support, but just a bit more pressure relief would go a long way. I might try a 2 inch Tempur pedic topper on it to see if it gives it that softness without losing too much underlying support. Overall, I do think many people (my wife being one of them) would have been happy with many or most of the mattresses I’ve tried. Costco’s return policy is keeping me sane while trying to figure out how to deal with my aches and pains. I’m realizing I should probably turn this into a post haha

Novaform comfort grande 14" is pretty legit for the price. Had over a year and no complaints.

Don't buy a foam bed in a box. They crater way fast. Also, stay away from pillow tops for the same reason.

I’ve got the 14” Novaform comfort grand and the 3” serenity tempur-pedic topper. I’m also a side sleeper w back issues and put a waterproof cover on, 3 dogs…. It’s been nice and I’d do it again. No dips or dents after a few years now.

I’ve been on a bit of a mattress journey with Costco. First tried the Sealy Carver Firm—loved it at first, but over time it developed a sag. Now, I’m testing out the Novaform Legacy Premier, and it’s definitely ultra firm.. like too firm, not conforming whatsoever and has zero bounce, which I’m not sure I love.

Thinking about returning it and going for an Avocado instead. Anyone have long-term success with a Costco mattress that held up? Would love to hear what worked (or didn’t) for you!

I'm happy with my Casper. They have a hybrid with springs I would have been interested in getting but it wasn't offered 5yrs ago.

My sister cant stop talking about her Purple mattress. I think I’m going to get one in a few years if Costco still has them.

The Novaform mattress is FANTASTIC!!! I’ve bought them for multiple beds. I have had pretty severe neck and back issues in the past, and it was the only mattress that I was comfortable on. It’s much better than the expensive mattresses I’ve had!

I randomly bought a cheap mattress at Costco. I thought all mattresses are the same. I have never had a good night sleep until I slept at Courtyard Marriott hotel. I found out they bought Saatva beds. I think they are a high end brand. They are expensive, but they have installment plans, and a white glove treatment. Don't compromise on your sleep. Invest in a good mattress. They have a showroom where you can test out their mattresses.

Has anybody bought a mattress from Costco? If so which one and how are you liking it? My warehouse currently has the Sealy Hollycourt Posturepedic (Item# 3061012), Novaform Comfort Grande Advance (Item# 1723203), and Casper memory foam (Item# 1271394). I'm thinking about getting a new queen mattress but don't know which one to go with.

Novaform, I’ve had 5 kings over the years. Cannot recommend them enough.

Had a Novaform going on 10 years. It's ready to swap out at this point but has been pretty damn good overall. Funny side story - we bought it when we moved to our new place and had slept on a blow-up bed for a few nights while waiting for it to arrive. We unpacked it and were waiting overnight for it to fully expand per the instructions. I jokingly leaned over on it while my wife was unpacking some clothes... I passed out for almost 5 hours with my feet still on the floor. She still bugs me about it lol

The Stearns and Foster is amazing. We had the previous version for 8 years and recently updated to the current version just because we were worried as with all things Costco, if you don't buy when you see it, it could be gone. It ruins you for travel however because nothing is as comfortable that I can find.

Casper Select Hybrid (specifically the hybrid), had mine for a few years and could’ve live without. I’ve recommended it to handful of friends/family and everyone who’s got one says it’s the most comfortably mattress they’ve ever had.

So my husband and I need to get a new mattress and are thinking about Costco for it. We bought a brand new mattress at a random mattress store back in 2017 right after we got married. In less then 7 months it had formed huge divots from my husbands pressure points down the bed. You couldn’t find anywhere to lie comfortably. We tried taking it back to the random mattress retailer after 7 months and they said “nope, so sad. Would you like to buy a NEW one?” So our supposedly first big purchase after getting married turned into a huge waste of $2k bucks.

Since then we have literally bought second hand mattresses when needed at a fraction of the cost. Things were great with that until my dear mother came to visit. You’d think she slept in an Iron Maiden. She then tears the sheets off and saw it had a goodwill tag (the horror). I can’t describe the mix of anger, bewilderment, disgust, et al that came from that woman’s mouth. (I hurried and grabbed the sheets before she saw they were from IKEA just in case that was an issue!)

That brings me to my question for everyone. Anyone acquire a mattress from our store and savior, Costco? I’d like to get some different opinions but let’s be real. The ONLY thing I care about is the return policy. The 2017 divot debacle cannot happen again! Id like to know that if anything happens all I have to do is take it back like that 2009 sofa set, those too small pants and anything from Amylu (sorry guys. Just ew) Thanks for listening! We got our novaform king mattress there a few years ago. Still love it and way cheaper than anything else we were looking at.

Our solution (which took us over a year and a variety of mattresses to discern) is a bit unconventional, but highly recommended. We are large, tall side sleepers, both of us. But we are nearly 100 pounds different in weight. So, our support needs are different even though we want to sleep side by side. We need a king size mattress/ sleep surface. Here's the brainwave: two XL Twin mattresses strapped together make a bed the size of a King. We ordered one for each of us from Costco in the firmness we like with the coordinating foundations for each and a memory foam topper also in our preferred firmness. We used Velcro straps to lash the foundations together and we can sleep next to each other now without disturbing each other with movement or one of us being uncomfortable to accommodate for the other's sleep preferences. I buy XL Twin mattress covers, King Size fitted sheets, and XL Twin flat sheets. We both use our own blankets and I'll toss over a king size duvet if I want it to look pretty. I hope this helps! It saves us a ton of money and just as much sleep. Best of luck!

Hi guys, my parents are looking for a mattress to replace the one they've been sleeping on for the past decade. We initially got one from Mattress Firm but noticed sagging after sleeping on it for a couple of months. It was a headache trying to go through the return process for the mattress. We're looking to Costco to get a mattress since their return policy is really good. Do you guys have any recommendations for "Firm" mattress that Costco sells?

My personal opinion is that it's better to go somewhere else for a firm mattress than Costco.

The vacuum packed Nova form mattress is the best mattress I have ever owned. Its firm. Had for about 5 years now and both wife and myself are very happy with it.

I’ve never bought a mattress from Costco and quite frankly I tend to overly debate purchases and my mental capacity is pretty drained right now. So, which would you buy, for a three year old?

I haven't tested out either but recommend against memory foam for kids. Idk about yours but mine always slept hot especially at that age and would wake up sweaty, memory foam is only going to make that worse.

We currently sleep on an American standard foam bed/kinda like a tempur pedic but not exactly. If I had the $ I’d get one of those black beauty rest mattresses. But they are like 10k which is crazy.

We have 2 novaform mattresses, they are awesome. The low price almost disuaded me from trying but my wife insisted because of the return policy

I have! Casper makes it. It’s a guest room mattress. Everyone always comments on how great it is. I was worried it would be awful because how good could a mattress in a box be but Costco backs it with their warranty so I didn’t worry too much.

I bought a Tempur-Pedic firm mattress (from Costco) around 6 months ago, but it's already started sinking and causing significant lower back pain. I was expecting it to hold up better, especially at this price point.

I’m now looking for a better, firmer mattress option from Costco that provides good support and won’t sag quickly. I prefer something that stays flat and helps with alignment—memory foam, hybrid, or innerspring are all okay if they work.

There isn't any. Black rest used to be the firmest on their catalog... though it's just medium firm. It dint work out and we returned it. For us, buying adjustable frame with lumbar support turned out to be way better option than finding matters.

Sagging bed can often be traced back to sagging base. What do you have the mattress on?

I bought the novaform 14" comfort grande. Soft on the surface yet it does not sink. Very comfortable. I like it so much I bought two more

We got a queen size Casper Select Hybrid and love it! We hated mattress shipping, it felt like such a huge gamble and commitment. But then when we learned Costco has mattresses, we felt comfortable buying from Costco because of their return policy - better than any return policy we were looking at from any mattress company.

Hi everyone,

I am currently mattress shopping and could really use some expert guidance.

I tried some mattresses at mattress firm, and loved the tempurpedic adapt, but it’s just too expensive.

I want to get something through costco, and ended up between the Sealy Posturepedic 12" Hybrid Mattress and the Casper Cooling Select Hybrid.

I’m 6’2 and have scoliosis so i need something medium firm to support my spine

Does anyone have any recommendations? Open to other costco suggestions too

The highest quality Costco mattresses imo, for a memory foam mattress the Tempur Supreme, for a hybrid the Tempur Supreme Hybrid, and for latex the Avocado Organic. Im guessing if the regular Tempur Adapt was too expensive however both of those might be a bit out of your price range as well, but they are probably the nicest mattresses Costco carries. Costco is running a $300 Costco gift card with purchase, so that brings the cost down to $1600 at least which is pretty decent(assuming you end up spending $300 at Costco eventually anyways). Between the two you are suggesting maybe Id give a slight edge to the Casper, but I wouldnt be especially excited about either. If you have laid down on either one of them before and know that they match your comfort preferences, there would be your answer right there though. Costco's return policy kind of takes away the stress over durability so you can really focus more on comfort, but comfort is subjective so there is no way for me to tell you which of the two will be more comfortable for you.
