just moved in with my fiancé, and we're trying to stretch our interior design muscles by replacing our hand-me-down furniture one room at a time ! next task is the living room, for which we're trying to find a deep-set, modular sectional that can seat 4-5 people, would be comfortable enough to sleep on, and works with the cat-e-corner scratch posts (because our cats have completely destroyed the arms on our current courderoy sofa from the house i grew up in)

ideally, we'd like something green to use as a focal point for the room, and our budget is 2-5k. our american friends recommended the living spaces zone green 4-pc modular L-shaped sectional, however it's not available for delivery to canada, and we'd really prefer to buy canadian. i've found a few options so far:

• the structube soft contemporary 5-pc modular sectional, on sale for 2k

• the silk & snow aire modular sectional 4-seater L-shaped with ottoman, just over 5k

• the cozey ciello XL L-shaped modular sectional with ottoman, 4.8k

we're mostly looking for advice on which would be the best fit/deal, but we're also more than open to other options !

Anyone bought a modular sofa that you absolutely love? I’m looking into buying one and see the Transformer Sofa, Rezey, Cozey, and a few others. Aside from Cozey, there’s not much information on any of them though.

I’m currently shopping for a modular sectional for around $3000 USD or less.

Other than price, here are my needs:

• less than 115” Wide

• L-shaped if a sectional

• relatively easy to move (hence the modular bit)

• comfy; I know this is subjective, but as we tend to use the sofa fairly regularly it needs to be comfortable. Ideally nothing super firm.

• Modern style (inspiration 1, inspiration 2, inspiration 3, inspiration 4)

• refillable and reversible cushions

• washable seat covers

• at least 10 year “lifespan”

If anyone has any experience with any of the products posted for style inspiration, I’d love some feedback!

Edit: forgot to mention I do NOT have children and likely won’t for 7-8 years. I do have 2 cats, but they aren’t very interested in the furniture other than to sit/sleep on it

We are a military family and have lived in 4 different cities in 6 years, so moving couches when you never know what space you will be in, has been incredibly frustrating and then we end up with pieces that don't fit well. A modular sectional may really help solve our problem and are ready to invest in a well made piece with these on our check list:

-removable cushions and covers (dogs and kids)

-multiple configurations (including separated into either a love seat and sofa for example or large sectional all together)

-Hopefully made in Canada with good delivery service across the country. A return policy if needed and good customer service (perhaps this isn't a thing and please let me know if it's not)

-actually comfortable, a few we have tried in store look nice but are not comfortable at all.

• perhaps an upgradable stain resistant fabric.

-colours such as navy or gray.

-a good depth couch, I want to curl up on my couch lol.

Looking for a well made sofa that is comfortable and doesn’t cost over 4K. I keep seeing adds pop up for Article but as I understand they are not actually manufactured in Canada and the quality is not on par with the price tag. I’d like to avoid shops like wayfair. Ideally I’d be able to go look at the couch in person but not appose to online as long as they are reputable. Im drawn to cloud couch, Sundays/Article for their big fluffy modern couches but ideally will hold up over time.

We moved into a new place with crazy tight turns in the hallway/stairs requiring modular furniture, and we’re coming up empty with places that have modular sofas.

We did furniture row on United Blvd in Coquitlam, and we’re getting delay after delay with Structube. We have a couch on order there, but have doubts it’ll get here before fall.

What other places do you guys know of that has good selections of modular sofas? At this point, price is not a big bother, it’s more will it fit up the stairs rather than our wallets.

I'm looking for what I think is called a modular couch? I'm talking about a couch that can be taken appart and reassemble because nothing pass properly in my basement stairs.

Instagram showed me the rezy couch. I loved the idea of using the couch as a storage space, would save a lots of space. Design in canada, but not made in Canada, can't really find where. Also, at 3000$ for a 2 seat couch, I'm unsure it's the best use of so much money (or is it the price of couch now?).

I was wondering what else exist in similar form. I'm looking for a couch that is about 80 inch wide, not L shape.

I'm based in Quebec in case of delivery if not in store bought.

We don't like our sofa to be too firm, a bit of softness is always good. Although we still want good posture and back support.

We are looking for a new good quality sectional for our basement. It has to be modular to fit. We have two small children under 4 years old, and we have 2 dogs that are couch potatoes. Our kids and dogs aren't going to destroy the furniture, but we just want something that will last longer than our last one because we will be spending quite alot of time on it (family movie nights, hosting, I like to lounge and read..etc)

We bought our last sectional from a random furniture store, and it lasted 2 years before we even had kids.

We like medium to firm. Was looking at the Cozy Ciello XL, but I know that it's marketed as soft. I also haven't seen many reviews from people who have young kids.

We bought a couch from cozey about 2 years ago. For context, we got the Cozey Original (now called Altus) in a 3-seater with a chaise, in light grey (now called Fog). It is our daily couch, in a home of two adults and a dog.

Feel free to ask me any questions if I don't cover it. We mainly bought the Cozey because there were not a lot of couches available following COVID. They were still fairly new at this time and there wasn't a lot of info on them, and it still seems like there aren't a ton of detailed reviews. So here is my honest, unbiased review, as someone who paid for the couch with their own money.

Modularity: The modularity of this couch is a MAJOR win in my books. We have moved with it twice now, and I cannot emphasize enough how much of a relief it was to be able to just take our couch apart and put it back together when moving. It is super easy to assemble and disassemble. In our most recent move, we planned to put a different (non-modular) couch in our finished basement, but we couldn't maneuver it through the doorway to the to the basement. We were able to just take apart the Cozey to have a couch down there.

It also gives me a lot of peace of mind knowing I can just order a replacement part or cushion cover if something were to happen (especially when our dog was a puppy and we were worried he may chew on the couch). We don't have to worry about reupholstering or getting a whole new couch if something breaks.

My only minor qualm is that I wish there was the option to leave the back piece and the seat piece together when disassembling without the arm rests, just to make assembly a bit quicker when you're moving. But it's not that big of a deal.

Comfort: Comfort is super subjective, but I'll give my take anyways. This is a firm couch. It's not a hard couch, but it is firm. I personally prefer a firmer couch, and find it quite comfortable. My mom has the Cozey Ciello, which is a lot softer (and larger). My partner is 6'2, I am 5'2, and we are both able to sit on the couch comfortably (not too shallow or too deep). Dog loves it too, lol.

Wear and Care: Because the couch is on the firm side, the cushions have held up really nicely. We haven't noticed any sagging the way I have seen in cheaper or similar priced couches from IKEA or Structube.

They are also easy to clean. Our pup has jumped up on the sofa with muddy paws before and we were able to easily spot clean it with soap and water. The covers are also removable and machine washable, which is a major win. In terms of handling pet hair, I would say it's pretty moderate. I have seen couches hold way more pet hair than this, and also have seen couches withstand/repel pet hair way better. For the price point it's pretty decent.

Now. This is where we get to the one failure of the Cozey in my eyes. The fabric pills so badly. If you have read any reviews from the Cozey, you will likely see people complain about the pilling. Ours started pilling around the 8 month mark I would say, so I reached out to Cozey to ask if they was normal. They said there were issues with some of the early batches of fabric and they would send me new covers. They sent them, and they still pill. With the lighter couch colour, it can make it look dirtier than it is. I can make them look decent again if I take a razor to them every couple of months, but nobody wants to have to do that. I am curious if the velvet colour options also pill. I have heard of people also having pilling with the Ciello fabric (to a lesser degree). My mom's doesn't have any pilling yet, but she also has no pets, no kids, and it's not her daily couch.

All in all, I think the Cozey is pretty decent. The modularity is amazing, it's comfortable (to us), and it's easy to clean. If they were to fix the fabric issue, I would only ever buy a Cozey couch from now on and would yell from the rooftops for everyone else to buy them too. Unfortunately, the pilling is really annoying. With that said, I am unaware of any other brands that are doing what Cozey is doing, in a similar pricepoint. The couch is the same price now that it was when we paid for it 2 years ago, so the cost has remained untouched by inflation. I can't say the same for other couches made by other brands. With that in mind, maybe the pilling issue is worth it for the cost and convenience, up to you to decide!

** Update ** Based on comments here, it seems possible that Cozey has improved their fabric with the transition from the Cozey Original to Cozey Altus. Some people with the newer models have reported no pilling. I can't confirm whether this is true or not since I don't have the new model to compare. Either way, it is still unfortunate for us who have the Original since we now have to deal with the pilling forever.

Update 2025 I want to point out that Cozey is a Canadian company with headquarters in Montreal. The couches are designed in Montreal, but are built by manufacturers in China and Mexico. A couple of years ago Cozey had released a "sister" company called Nook, which were essentially the same style of modular couches but for a more "premium" price and with different materials. They were both designed and made in Canada. However, upon making this I went to look up the company again and can no longer find their website - their Instagram hasn't posted since 2023. So I'm guessing the company is unfortunately no longer in business, likely because the higher price point compared to Cozey wasn't selling.

I have gotten a few questions since making this post asking if I still like the Cozey and if the pilling has gotten worse. My answer is yes - I still like the Cozey. Structurally it has held up the same as when I first made this post. Even though the new covers we were sent still had issues with pilling quickly, it has seemed to plateau. The new covers have not pilled as much as the old ones and look better overall.

I'm on the hunt for a great quality, comfortable, and durable sectional for my living room. My budget is up to $3,500 CDN, and I’m specifically looking for something that's Canadian-made to support local businesses and ensure top-notch craftsmanship.

Does anyone have recommendations for where to shop in Vancouver or the surrounding areas? I'm interested in both physical stores and online retailers, as long as the sectional is built to last and offers a good mix of style and comfort.

Hi All! I’m looking for a new couch because my old one didn’t make it up the stairs of my new building (very old old Boston building with small stairways). Can’t be deeper than 93”. It could be very wide (as much as 18’), but we’ll likely choose something far less wide than that because we're not crazy people.

  • $5,600 for stocked fabric

  • $7,000 to $8,000 for more interesting fabric options

  • 64” by 160”

  • Smaller footprint than the RH Cloud, equally slouchy and deep enough. Frame seems a bit more structured than the Cloud but future Reddit reviews may end up hating it because it probably won’t stay wrinkle free. (Not a huge concern for us; this is for a basement.)

  • 8 weeks for production, if not in stocked fabric.

  • As of 2/14/2024, nothing but five star reviews on R&B website. (They don’t prune bad reviews, like some DTC brands.)

• RH Cloud 6-piece U-chaise (Luxe size)

  • $9,000 in lowest cost upholstery

  • $300 delivery

  • Only neutral colors; not ideal

  • 90” deep by 177” wide

  • Loved and hated by Reddit. Most complains not about quality but the fact that it foam on the inside and lacks structure, making it uncomfortable for some and not look like it did in the showroom over time.

  • Lots of gently used inventory available for $3,000 to $6,000; new slip covers can be purchased from RH but a full set will likely cost $5,000. Local RH outlet may have some discounted options.

  • Have been able to sit on it in RH showroom; I find it comfy

  • Many DTC companies get roasted on Reddit. (Thanks for the warnings!) Article seems like one of the least bad, especially given their relatively high quality items for relatively affordable prices.

  • I have purchased a couple things from Article (a bed and some poufs) and my experience was great. Shipped on time. Quality was better than expected.

  • They don’t seem to cook their reviews (actual one-star reviews on their website). Some of the complaints are irrational (“the couch wasn’t as green as it looked on my monitor!”) And some of the old issues on Reddit had to do with long waiting times during the pandemic, when everyone was having problems.
