Hi, I'm sure this question gets asked a lot.

It has been a couple of years since I coded but I want to get back into it as I am heading to university and I know it will come up in some of my maths and economics modules especially Python and R. Plus it is just a useful skill to learn.

I prefer to learn from videos rather than reading. Is there any good youtubers out there that offer step by step tutorials of all basics in python plus intermediate level? Alternatively if there is any particularly good websites then I would be open to using them, I don't need a video, just prefer it.

No matter which one you choose, you won't benefit without putting it into practice. Like a musical instrument, you can watch all the videos you want, but you won't actually learn how with out practice.

mCoding is great for high level concepts. ArjanCodes is great for design patterns. AsOttile (sp?) covers fairly niche topics but is good too.

Why does it have to be youtube? Video tutorials are sub-optimal for learning as they encourage passive watching instead of active programming, which is the only way to really learn. Do the MOOC Python Programming 2023 from the University of Helsinki. It is a free, textual (there are videos but they can be completely skipped), extremely practice oriented proper University course. This is their current first semester of "Introduction to Computer Science" course. As a side note: as an aspiring programmer you will need to look for and use available resources. Had you done that, you would have found the sidebar ("About" on mobile). There, you would have found the Frequently Asked Questions, which you could think that your question is part of, and there, you would have found Recommended Learning Resources that would have directly answered your question.

I know this has been asked a lot of times, and I know I can read the FAQ, but I would ideally prefer a single youtube video, rather than a playlist of hundreds of videos. Or should I stop being a lazy ass and view all of Corey Schafer's playlist?

I doubt you want a single huge video, it won't be shorter in total...

Having a little bit of programming experience with R I actually found I got a lot more from working through a book than from videos or tutorials.

Everyone is different, so maybe that isn't for you. But I find that being able to skim, or read faster through sections I'm fairly comfortable with, and re-read things I'm less certain about a lot easier than trying to pause, re-wind etc a video.

Hi everyone, So i have recently started learning Python programming language at my University. I am an absolute beginner, and by absolute beginner i really mean absolute beginner at this language. I wanna learn this programming language, So that i can also learn Machine learning and Data Science. Few pointers and ideas to get you started: Check out the wiki of this subreddit. There are a lot of learning resources there. Don't rely heavily on youtube videos. Watching a video can be a very passive way of trying to learn something. You're not going to get any good at programming or know how to use the language just by watching videos. I'll always recommend decent online resources and a reliable and reputable book or two. Read the official documentation. I always have a tab open with the docs for whatever library or libraries I'm currently using. This should be your primary resource for up to date information. Books, videos, and tutorial websites (that aren't officially maintained) will go out of date. Official docs should not. Read posts here, as well as the help provided by the community in comments. Study other people's code and projects. Create your own projects when you're ready. Don't linger too long in small toy examples, but look for useful things you can do that will actually have an impact on your workflow outside of coding. Python is used for a lot of things. Narrowing your desired area of work and study will be helpful. Don't expect or try to master everything in the language. If you goal is to do data science + machine learning work, learn to use Numpy, Pandas, scipy, sklearn, Pytorch or Tensorflow..... don't worry about unrelated things. You'll get to those if and when you need them. The language is only a tool. You say you want to learn data science and machine learning. Those are subjects that should be studied agnostic of any programming language. Simply learning to use data science or machine learning libraries isn't going to give you expertise in either domain.

Learn the very basics as in loops, oop, etc. DO PROJECTS!! and not via tutorials You need to find projects you are interested in, and do them, start with small ones and advance with big once, they dont need to have a purpose just do it. That will allow you to learn how to start one and not be afraid to do so. That way you'll just be able to start any project you want or your client needs without needing the info before and learning it while you go, so it wont feel overwhelming. Easily do the 4 hour youtube tutorial by Freecodecamp to get the basics down. Then just start building small things. You could set yourself up in a week to have a solid grasp on some things before uni.

Harvard CS50p is free on youtube. It's a little slow but good. MOOC - University of Helsinki is text-based but is excellent. I have a Python and Data Science course that starts from scratch and assumes no background. However it's not on youtube. I'd recommend checking out the free preview videos, read reviews to determine the quality. Finally there is the book "Automate the Boring Stuff" and the docs at python.org These resources will have you covered. Only the first resource is on youtube and even that resource is recommended to check out on EdX.
