I need to buy a vacuum for an elderly family member, where weight is a large concern. To give you an idea, they can just barely handle my Miele S7280 Jazz which is 21.5 lbs and self-propelled. I also am not sure they could handle a cordless that could not stand upright on its own.
The Hoover ONEPWR HEPA looked like a great option at only 11 pounds, but their place is 50% flooring 50% carpet so no brushroll shutoff is a no-go. Unfortunately all the other cordless vacs in my price range on the recommended list are "Dyson" syle.
From the recommended list the UH30301 seems to be the lightest (under $600) by a good amount at 15.9 lbs. I think maybe they might be able to handle that, but honestly even that is likely on the heavy side. Especially without a swivel.
Any suggestions for a light vacuum that will fit their needs? Budget is $400, but I might be able to stretch as high as $500 or $600.
I am also open to considering buying two units, one dedicated for carpet and one for flooring. But their place is pretty small so I would prefer not to.

Are there any objections to having two vacuums? One for carpeting and one for hard flooring? I only ask because there are some wonderful lightweight vacuums that will clean the carpets fantastically. You already mentioned the ONEPWR, but an Oreck or Riccar R10 would also suit. My mother is fairly brittle at this point in her life, and I purchased her a Riccar R10P... she loves that she can move it around easily on the carpet AND that she can actually carry it if she needs to as well. With that - perhaps pairing a lightweight carpet model with a small canister for the hard flooring? It may take you slightly above budget, but could give them the freedom & flexibility they desire. Or if it's just not an option, perhaps a simple sweep into a pile with a "dust buster" style pickup of the pile? I know it's not ideal, but it's budget friendly!
