February 14, 2024 - I also bought a huge assortment of scotchbright/sandpaper wheels that seem fantastic and were also super cheap. All no name from China. I also got a small assortment of diamond burrs that have proven wonderful. I mostly use them for special grinds on my HSS bits for my shaper.

March 30, 2024 -
I bought these 1/8’’ tungsten carbide grinding bits and need to remove some large welds and grind some metal. Will any electric rotary tool be good enough? Can anyone suggest something on Amazon?

A Dremel-like rotary tool is not the tool for this job. You could do it, but you'll learn to hate yourself and the rotary tool way, way before you finish. Your least expensive solution for this, would be to buy the cheapest 4.5-inch angle grinder you can find (maybe $20, less on sale at Harbor Freight), and a couple wheels, and have at it. Despite how cheap they are, if you don't insist on pushing them until they overheat (which your rotary tool will, really quickly), they last a surprisingly long time and are a great value for the money. ... as a semi-aside, you can get a reasonably accurate comparison between how fast two different tools can remove metal, by comparing the watts or amps rating. To a first approximation, there's a direct, pretty much linear relationship between watts and metal removal rate. If your rotary tool sucks up 1/5 the power that an angle grinder does, it'll remove metal roughly 1/5th as fast. A super-cheap angle grinder might be 5.5 amps, and a good one might be twice that, and the good one will knock metal down twice as fast as the cheaper one (or remain much cooler at the same metal removal rate).

The tool you want is called a die grinder. It's like a big more powerful rotary tool. The bits they use are generally 1/4

March 4, 2021 - You don’t need to press the bit against the surface because Syndent metal grinding drill bits are sharp enough to cut the metal like butter. Keep moving the rotating burr until the whole surface is ground. The unnecessary force put on the rotary file may damage the flute’s sharpness.

I find that like almost all tool “kits”, they are full of 80% things that you will never even look at and maybe 20% useful things. So now I just buy individual Dremel brand bits based on need.

High Speed Rotary Burrs (Dremel) - Diamond, Carbide, HSS - The Home Shop Machinist & Machinist's Workshop Magazine's BBS
Iv found the diamond coated burrs work wonders on plastics, although its more of a friction melting cut at times, the high RPM throws strands of plastic around to keep it from building up and the closed grain structure of the diamond burr lets you easily peel the left over plastic off the bit when you are done. Abrasive stones work well for hardened steels, but anything softer a carbide burr will chew through 10x faster. That said the abrasive stones dig in and skitter around your work a lot less and tend to give a smoother finish, so they can be nice to smooth out the carbide burr marks or for when you need to be more precise. Carbide burrs, more in the 1/4" style for bigger die grinders, will throw really nasty sharp needles everywhere off some mildly hard steels, very annoying but does not happen too often.
