So I'm leveraging the hive mind to help me as I am starting to do research into getting a standing desk. I have recently started doing work on my posture, and I'm looking to replace my current writing desk with a standing one. Based on the space, dimensions are essentially 48"W x 24"D. I'm 5'6" so I'm guessing any desk that is adjustable height will work, and I'd like it to have, ideally, 2 drawers to it.
So, here's the deal: I don't even know where to start on this because this isn't the sort of product that CB2 (where I got my current desk) is doing. What are the brands to look at? Is it possible to get something of good quality without breaking the bank ( Ideally less than $500). How much does quality (and options) improve if I go up to $1k? All I'm asking for is some help in pointing me in the right direction to get things started.

I’ve been using the Autonomous desk for three years now after a friend recommended it. The frame is solid, and while there’s a little shake at standing height if you push it, it’s nothing that affects daily use. If you’re looking for something around $500, I’d say it’s a good choice. I’ve also seen a lot of people suggest Uplift, if your budget allows, that might be worth considering too. I’d love to try one someday if I get the chance. More on reddit.com

Get a standing desk. Then when you want to sit use a drafting stool. It’s what I did. Much cheaper, more stable, etc. Edit: if you’re really strapped for cash you can make a good standing desk for cheap by adding extra height to an ikea desk. Slip the legs into pvc pipe as sleeves with dowel rods as the bottom filler for the extra height. I made four massive 2 foot X8 foot standing desks out of 2x4s, plywood, pvc pipe, and desk legs that way for all under $200. After some sanding and paint they are not bad looking, huge, and very sturdy/stable. More on reddit.com
