Are cooling blankets expensive?
High-quality cooling blankets can cost anywhere from $100 to $350, depending on their materials and construction. Since they tend to be thinner than traditional winter blankets, they may cost a bit less than their heavier counterparts. Blankets with natural and organic materials or specialized cooling technologies tend to be the most expensive. A quality blanket can last for years with proper care, so investing in a blanket that keeps you comfortable can easily pay off over time.

What material is not ideal for a cooling blanket?
Any material that holds in body heat should be avoided when looking for a cooling blanket. Fleece and down are examples of such materials. Thermal blankets and any that are designed for warmth won’t wick away moisture or provide the air flow necessary for staying cool. For optimal cooling, your blanket should be lightweight and composed of breathable fibers. Natural and semi-synthetic materials such as cotton and bamboo-derived viscose are usually the best bets for temperature regulation.

Is a thinner blanket cooler?
The thickness of a blanket alone does not determine how well it regulates temperature. Cooling blankets are often thinner than traditional blankets, but the materials and weave play a significant role in their cooler feel.A thin polyester blanket may feel warmer than a slightly thicker linen or Tencel blanket because of the difference in breathability offered by those materials. In general, a looser weave feels cooler due to increased ventilation and airflow. A blanket’s weight can also affect how cool it feels, with lightweight blankets typically running cooler than heavyweight options.

November 1, 2023 -
most cooling blankets seem really thin or just not soft. i live in northern michigan so our winters are very cold, but if i cover up with my current blanket, i sweat sooo badly with or without the furnace on. i need something breathable.
i found this subreddit just for this because i’ve been looking forever, but i’m so skeptical of online reviews.

I have the same problem. I can get very cold, very easily (and I live in New England) but I have night sweats due to some medication. I just switched over to a linen and hemp comforter. So far, so good. It's super duper warm when I pair it with a cotton quilt[2]. It hasn't eliminated the night sweats completely but I'm satisfied. It's relatively fluffy and I like the weight. The only thing is the linen shell- a lot of people find linen to be rough. But it does get softer the more you wash it and use it. My old comforter was made of denim, so I'm used to something that's not silky smooth already. Edit: One thing that also helps is to "jump-start" warming up with a rice sock or other heater. I get about 30 minutes of heat to defrost my toes and bring everything up to temperature. December 20, 2020 - Another point that I think is really obvious here is that the two warmest ones – the Luxome and the standard Gravity blanket – both use either a microfleece or a Minky polyester exterior in the duvet cover. I think that’s a really interesting point to bear in mind. If you’re looking for a warm one, then look for that Minky or microfleece duvet cover – but not if you’re a hot sleeper.

May 20, 2024 - I like thin cotton blankets year round. In colder months, I use a second one if needed. ... I am also a hot sleeper and I use 100% cotton percale sheets and a 100% cotton quilt. In the winter I add a mid layer of a 100% cotton blanket and swap to flannel sheets.
