Binary-to-text encoding - Wikipedia
1 week ago - Conceptually, binary-to-text encoding differs from numeric representation for a numeric base (radix). For example, decimal is a scheme for representing a value as base-10, but it is not a binary-to-text encoding. A binary-to-text encoding could be devised that uses decimal representation for ...

Iโm having trouble understanding what a Huffman tree really is. Can anybody dumb it down for me? I get that itโs a type of binary tree but thatโs about it.
OK, forget the tree part for a bit. Huffman coding is a way to compress data. Let's suppose that you've got a high school with 1000 students, and they all get to order a slice of pizza. We each have an alphabetized roster of students, so I just need to send you a list of 1000 pizza orders as quickly as possible. There are five types of pizza: cheese, pepperoni, veggie, mexican, and hawaiian. If all types of pizza were equally popular, Huffman compression wouldn't help. Since there are five types of pizza, we could encode each type of pizza with three bits: 000 = cheese 001 = pepperoni 010 = veggie 011 = mexican 100 = hawaiian Those are completely arbitrary, but basically it shows that as a baseline, we could communicate the pizza orders with 3000 bits. (Remember, the order matters - we need to know that the first student ordered cheese, and so on.) But, in the real world, some pizzas are a lot more popular than others! That's where Huffman encodings are helpful. To keep it really, really simple, let's suppose that 90% of the kids just want cheese pizza, and the other 10% are evenly distributed between the other pizza types. Given that, we could come up with a different encoding: 0 = cheese 100 = pepperoni 101 = veggie 110 = mexican 111 = hawaiian Notice now how cheese only takes 1 bit, but the others take 3 bits. This works because only cheese starts with a 0 and the other four start with a 1. It wouldn't work if we tried to make pepperoni start with a 0. Let's say I gave you this string of bits: 001000101000 Read it from left to right, and decode as you go. You end up decoding it like this: 0 - 0 - 100 - 0 - 101 - 0 - 0 - 0 That's 6 cheese pizzas, one pepperoni , and one veggie. We just communicated 8 pizzas in just 12 bits, compared to 24 bits. That's a 2x compression! The Huffman tree is just a way to express that encoding. As you're reading bits you can just follow the tree to figure out which pizza is being encoded. Are you with me so far? Does that help? More on reddit.com

What are Categorical Data Encoding Methods | Binary Encoding
May 1, 2025 - Binary encoding efficiently converts categories into binary digits, making it suitable for high cardinality datasets. In contrast, one-hot encoding creates separate binary columns for each category. A practical binary encoding example in Python can be implemented using libraries like category_encoders, streamlining the process of managing large datasets effectively.

Soluling supports the most commonly used encodings. Base64 (Wikipedia) is the most common binary encoding used when storing binary data into a string. It uses four bytes to store three bytes making it using 33% more space than the binary format. For most applications, a 33% increase is very ...

All about binary encoding: definition, decoder, encoder - CCM
October 21, 2022 - Therefore, the binary string 0101, in decimal, becomes: 23x0 + 22x1 + 21x0 + 20x1 = 8x0 + 4x1 + 2x0 + 1x1 = 5 ยท The byte (shortened to the uppercase B) is a unit of information composed of 8 bits. It can be used to store, among other things, a character, such as a letter or number. Grouping numbers in clusters of 8 makes them easier to read, much as grouping numbers in threes helps to make thousands clearer when working in base-10. For example, the number "1,256,245" is easier to read than "1256245"....

March 27, 2025 - The TextEncoder.encode() object takes a string and converts it into its UTF-8 binary representation and puts it into an Uint8Array. This byte sequence can then be stored, sent, or processed more efficiently because it's in raw binary format, the native language of computers. To illustrate its use, here's an example where TextEncoder is used to encode the 'โฌ' character into its corresponding UTF-8 byte representation in a byte array:

TenMinuteTutor - What is binary encoding?
Binary encoding is a method of encoding binary data in a format that only uses printable ASCII characters, so the data can be handled by systems that only accept ASCII data. Popular schemes include Base64, ASCII85, hex encoding and yenc.
