Bose QuietComfort Ultra 2nd Gen Headphones Review
3 weeks ago - As it turns out, not long after my review sample arrived, I was booked to attend a conference in Málaga, Spain. It was the perfect opportunity to test them on a few long-haul flights. Along with my daily work-from-home routine, outdoor weekend walks, and travel, I really put them to the test. The Bose QuietComfort Ultra 2nd gen headphones, which sell for $599 in Canada, are similar to the first-generation model.
Can Bose QuietComfort Headphones take calls?
Yes. Bose QuietComfort Headphones have an adaptive microphone system that allows you to use the headphones during calls when connected to any smartphone. In addition to traditional calls, the headphones will work with many apps that use Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), such as Zoom or FaceTime. The microphone system adapts to your environment to isolate your voice from competing background noises and wind so that you can confidently take a call or speak to your voice assistant anywhere you go—knowing you will be heard clearly and naturally.

How is total noise cancellation in Bose QuietComfort Headphones achieved?
Bose QuietComfort Headphones utilize both active and passive noise reduction technologies. They use a sophisticated proprietary electronics approach for active noise reduction, placing microphones both inside and outside the earcups. The electronics system senses the sound in almost any environment and then measures, compares, and reacts — instant by instant — to produce an opposing cancellation signal. Meanwhile, passive noise reduction is achieved by the combination of earcup fit, design, and clamping force of the headband.

The seal on the back says ‘refurbished’ but it came in a new retail box in a brand new condition. Upgraded my old QC35ii and the bluetooth range on the this unit is almost double.

Mine came in the same condition, but I just assumed they were lightly-used/returned. (There was also a slight tear in one corner of the “cover” box but I can’t imagine that’d be enough for them to sell them as refurb rather than new?)

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) review
In our five-star review of the original Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones, we highlighted a few imperfections in their design. You couldn’t listen to them wired over USB-C, their battery life fell short of that delivered by their closest rival, and their spatial audio was unconvincing. Bose fixes the original Ultra’s flaws while furthering their strengths, but is that enough?
