If you are not seeing the camera icon to the right of the "Enter VIN" field, please try clearing your browser's cache. VINCheck cross-references the VIN entered against participating insurer’s theft and salvage records. Accordingly, only insurance records appear in response to a VINCheck query and only those records of participating insurers. VINCheck does not query law enforcement records or records of insurance companies that elect not to participate in VINCheck. While VINCheck is a useful free tool, it is not a comprehensive vehicle history report and should not be relied upon when purchasing a vehicle.

r/DMV on Reddit: What exactly is needed for a VIN Verification? (California)
September 9, 2024 -
Bought a car out of state. Dealership is asking me for Smog test and Vin verification. Not sure what’s exactly needed for the vin verification.
The car isn’t registered in my name either, it’s under my moms, would she need to be there with me to get it done? Or would I be able to go by myself and get it done?
Would appreciate any help, thanks!

VIN verification can be done at DMV or by ‘authorized’ agents. At my DMV, the verification line is separate from the long line of driving test, so don’t waste your time in the wrong line outside. You can get the form and just get your car right in line, don’t park in the lot and wait inside. I don’t think she needs to be there.
