I passed the SY0-601 today, and what worked for me was I watched all Dion’s Sec+ Exam prep on Udemy, and did all his practice exams. At first I would bomb them and then just break down each wrong answer and absorb the info that way. On my 2nd attempt I’d get close to nothing wrong. I created separate quizlets to memorize port numbers to their protocols, and encryption types. This helped me boost my first attempt score at new exams to around low 70’s. Then after repeating the process, I would score 90’s. After going through all Dion’s exams i thought itd be helpful to do the same with Messer’s exams as well, and the same trends were happening, but i would utilize the same break down and reattempt process after making use of the explanations that both Udemy provided for Dion’s exams and Messer provided for his own. This alone gave me a passing grade. In the end i think what works for you is whats most important because most people would advise against “memorization” and “familiarity” with practice exams. For me, I just felt watching Dion’s exam prep lectures had me wanting to get through them all as opposed to applying them into an exam based method. This is why i tried to incorporate learning and an exam simulation together with practice exams. If you do it this way, just make sure to really be able to explain why the correct answer is correct and why wrong answers are wrong. Again, some people might prefer a textbook, some people might love lecture videos. Just gotta find what you can sustain most effectively. A really safe way would also be to just look up the CompTIA SY0-701 Security+ Exam objectives list and just take your own notes on each objective item until you finish it all & id say you pretty much cover every piece of ground needed for a passing score. 3 weeks should be enough if you dedicate 2-3 hours each day. Give at least a week only for doing the practice tests. This will give you an understanding for the kind of questions that will be asked in the exam. Try Skill-cert-pro I have done from them and liked it. its around 800 questions. I got nearly 70-80% from them on my main exam. Its super identical. Keep doing these tests until you’re scoring above 85%. More on reddit.com
