May 3, 2021 - I returned the SE for the XT Bluetooth model, wish I didn’t it’s way over priced. If your buying new headphones I would buy the new HS80. They are so snug and lighter which I prefer ... I got A Virtuoso headset, The Mic Broke less than a month in, And this is the response I got from corsair.

r/pcmasterrace on Reddit: Review of Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE headset
February 3, 2026 -

Purchased almost 5 years ago (2/15/2021) for $200, this headset sounds great, but I’m not happy with the materials they chose and the volume wheel design. The frame structure and the inside components are built fine, I’ve dropped them MANY times and they still feel and sound like new. It’s the materials used for the cups and headband that are awful and cheap. The volume wheel stopped working properly not even 2 years after purchase due to its faulty design.

The original cups started flaking within a year and a half, so I purchased replacements from Wicked Cushions that you see in the photos and they have done the same thing. Whatever fake leather these companies use, they need to STOP, PLEASE, this shit is so annoying and it gets in your ears and hair… not rad, dudes. WC now says they have upgraded the replacements with better stitching and PU leather. Do these work better? I have no idea and would be happy to hear someone’s opinion if they purchased them. Corsair does sell replacement cups, but they are the same exact original ones that I’m 100% sure would start flaking after a year. As for the headband, I haven’t seen any replacements and it looks like it wouldn’t be possible/practical for Corsair to make it so, so I may just end up using a sort of tape that hopefully doesn’t harbor bacteria easily (any recommendations on what to do would be A+).

As for the volume wheel, it has tremendously poor readability which makes one slight movement of it send the volume either up 1 or up really high, blowing your ears out. Research shows that the laser and the inner working of it may get dirty and you need to clean them after a while. Doing this does not solve the issue entirely, it either just didn’t work or it worked slightly for a minute and then goes right back to its issue, no matter how many times I tried to clean the whole mechanism. Could it have permanently malfunctioned after several too many drops? Maybe… just maybe.

The plusses are that it sounds pretty good off rip, but it sounds waaay better after optimizing the EQ with the Equalizer APO program (whoever made that is a god). It’s really easy to use and has great range in wireless mode. It works just fine with PS4/5 consoles. The battery life is on the lower end given it has titanium drivers and delivers good sound through extra power, but it’s still sufficient. Basic versatility works fine, there are three usages for connecting. You have a usb-c option, of course the wireless use with a proprietary dongle, and then the auxiliary port for a DAC (highly recommend). The mic works fine too, it’s whatever. Also, sexy voice tells you things when you mute or switch surround sound modes.

Overall I would… not recommend these. Getting flakes of fake leather everywhere, especially your fcking ears, and having a *potentially* faulty volume wheel is a deal breaker on a $200 premium headset, I don’t care how good they sound. Come to think of it, if you have scratchy/prickly hair, whether it’s from buzzing it or what have you, this fake leather is probably going to grind off in less than a year. If you have smooth silky skin and hair, you miiight be okay. I’m currently using a SteelSeries arctic 3 headset that is sufficient enough, but is built with much better fabric/materials.

On a final note, Corsair iCUE software is absolute dogshit, I have never used something worse than it. I have an MK2 silent keyboard by them, and the software NEVER recognizes it when opening it initially. I always have to open the program, quit it, then reopen for it to recognize the keyboard. The software is so buggy that it won’t open on startup no matter where I change the setting to do so. They don’t even properly maintain their website to download the correct version, I’m somehow on version 5 and when I search up iCUE, it takes me to download version 4. I’d say you should generally pass on Corsair products. I’ve had a Scimitar mouse and a Void headset that are both sadly in the great beyond from normal use. The H110i AIO and MK2 kb are the only things so far that have lasted years, and yes I am eventually going to get rid of the AIO as it is about 4 years old.

Thanks for reading.

Do you live in a humid environment? Do you sweat a lot? I’ve always seen people’s headphones and even chairs do this, but never mine. Just wondering.

I have an obsession with buying headphones and pillows for some odd reason, so I'll chime in... I currently own the following in order of purchase: Corsair HS80, Steelseries Nova Pro Wireless, Audeze Maxwell, Turtle Beach Atlas Air, Beyerdynamic MMX330's, and Meze 105 AER. Honestly, I'm done with gaming headsets. I purchased the first two because of hype and needing something asap, and while the HS80 was okay, like you said and like I experienced, iCue was dogshit. The Steelseries Nova Pro Wireless were okay, but needed too much tinkering to get a good full sound, everything sounded either hollow, or muddy, definitely needing some EQ loving. The Audeze Maxwell was the one I had been eyeballing the longest of all my headphones, and I absolutely love them still, even though I'm done with gaming headphones, these are extremely special, and useful for console gaming and needing wireless in a pinch with phenomenal audio to boot. The TB Atlas Air was my first foray into open backed headphones, bonus points for it being wireless, but I absolutely fell in love with that style, just the natural sound stage, and just how light the headphones were I was absolutely in love, problem is they didn't sound nearly as crisp and clean as the Maxwell's, granted they were $150 cheaper, but still... they just lacked that something that made me want to continue using them. Then came the Beyerdynamic MMX330's, a technically open back headphones (minor cut outs on the ear cups), that literally blew me out of the water with how comfortable they were, and how clean the sound was, especially when I finally decided to invest in an entry level DAC/AMP. Only problem I had with these was the bass lacked, a lot. Even when I'd disable VSS, and EQ the bass, it just couldn't get the bass to a satisfying level for me. Then came the Meze 105 AER's... basically the best set of headphones I've ever owned, bar none. The sound is honestly pure bliss, like air gently breezing past my ears, the bass is "just right," and now I'm hearing all manners of details I never heard in music I normally listen to, and games sound phenomenal, like you can hear the separation of each element of the sound being played, and with VSS on, it still maintains a ton of details that no other headphone I've owned before that. To keep it simple, I learned a very expensive and valuable lesson, gaming headphones from any company not known in the audiophile world are gimmicks. Your Razer's, your Corsairs, Turtle Beach, Steelseries, etc. are really only good for people on a budget, as that's literally all they give you, budget sound and budget build quality. Sure you can make a case that the higher end "gamer" headsets sound decent, I guarantee you if you put the more expensive gamer headsets against a proper set of headphones at that same price point, you'd have to have bad hearing not to be able to tell the difference. Ultimately, going forward my advice to anyone is it's better to invest into a decent set of headphones, get a decent entry level DAC/AMP, and an external mic.. yes all will cost you probably twice what you're willing to pay for a headset, but you'll get audio quality that's worth the extra cost, and a good starting point to upgrade from.

Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE
Corsair's most expensive and luxurious gaming headset, the Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE, offers a couple of upgrades from the "regular" Virtuoso RGB Wireless, but also surprisingly falls behind in the microphone department.

Gaming headset Corsair Virtuoso Wireless SE review – not quite cheap, but worth the price
September 26, 2019 - No, the Virtuoso isn’t quite perfect either, because that wouldn’t even work for the targeted 180 Euro MSRP. But if I compare the headset with similar offers, then the bid for this price seems quite fair. And since I am very sure that Corsair has self-confidently pumped a lot of media with samples, I will focus my review on what I can do best: Material analysis, complete break-down, PCB and chip analysis, microphone test as well as the audio chambers with the usual measurement curves and listening.
