February 4, 2025 -

I have had the Jabra Enhance Pro 20s for about 4 weeks now. I have the ITC option. Prior to this I wore costcos resound BTE option from 6 years ago. Not sure on the model. The resounds were great. I've worn hearing aids my whole life and the resound made me appreciate costcos option vs the audiologists I grew up with.

When I went last month for new hearing aids I wanted to try the Phillips after reading reviews here. The fitters convinced me to stay with Jabra since I had a good history with resounds. Y'all I hate these enhance pro 20's idk if it's me or the swap to ITC aids but I'm always getting feedback and ghost humming especially in small spaces like my car. Restaurants are just impossible now. I have played with app settings to turn down noise canceling or wind canceling and turn it up. I can't seem to fix the artificial sounds and humming. I guess I'm wondering if anyone else came across this. My fitter didn't have a ton of expirence but we got them sounding ok. I started off hating the high end and have been giving them a chance for the last month to see if my brain can adjust but it's just not going well. Anyone else have similar expirences with the Jabra enhance 20's? I'm not sure if settings can fix my issues or if I should return and try the Phillips I originally wanted.

I have profound hearing since birth and have had a difficult time with hearing aids since I started wearing them at 27 yrs old. I was previously wearing signias and they werent perfect but my main issue is I want to hear speech clearly. Signias did ok for a few years and now i just got the costco jabras. They are terrible. I hear all the environmental noises, but speech depending where its coming from is incomprehensible. Its never clear in any direction and I am constantly asking people to repeat themselves. I have two settings- hear in noise, and all around. How do i adjust the settings to hear speech better? I am not techy at all and this makes me feel so unbalanced and out of my element in public.

r/HearingAids on Reddit: Jabra - OTC vs. prescription (Costco)
December 11, 2023 -

Hi. I have moderate hearing loss in my right ear, along with some mild but constant tinnitus (which I can usually tune out pretty well). Underlying cause is Ménière’s disease over the past 10 years. The Meniere’s is under control pretty well but the hearing loss is of course permanent. I think the “moderate” label fits pretty well - I can hear conversation fine in quiet places, but in noisy situations I have trouble following. And when watching TV at normal volumes, I can understand fine if they speak clearly, but have trouble when characters are mumbling or have an accent.

Around 5 years ago I got prescription hearing aids from my audiologist, Oticon brand, and they weren’t great. I felt they made conversation louder but not at all clearer. I eventually gave up on wearing them.

I want to give it another try and I’m checking out the OTC Jabra’s (Enhance Select 100 or 300), since they got a good review in the NYT (Wirecutter). I took the jabra online hearing test and it confirmed moderate loss and that I was a candidate for their OTC aids. But I was just at Costco and saw they offer Jabra as well, prescription models that require professional fittings - including the new Jabra Enhance Pro 20.

So my question - what are the pros and cons of going OTC vs. prescription at Costco? Should I assume the technology is better in the prescription models?

Get prescription aids from an audiologist that performs real ear measurements. That is your ticket to success. OTC are meant for mild to moderate losses. Having Ménière’s disease creates unique hearing losses that necessitates using real ear measurements. Every hearing aid user should have it done, but you ESPECIALLY should.

My situation was very similar to yours--Meniere's-related moderate to bordering-on-severe hearing loss, worse in one ear than the other, with very poor low frequency hearing in one ear and poor high frequency hearing in both ears. I had an appointment with my ENT in which she confirmed that I should get HAs, but had to wait several months to see the ENT's in-house audiologist. I also booked an appointment at Costco with a two month wait. And I bough OTC Jabras after reading the Wirecutter recommendations. I liked that OTC Enhance Select 200s pretty well. I found the zoom consultation to be friendly and helpful. The Jabra support system was responsive to my requests and provided me with heaps of supplies. The only problem was that, because it was my first pair of HAs, I didn't really know what to ask for or what to expect with regard to sound quality. When my appointment with Costco finally rolled around, their hearing test produced an audiogram very similar to the one created by Mimi for the OTC Jabras. Costco suggested the Enhance Pro 20s, which they said were the "latest technology" and, although the technical details were never explained to me, were supposedly superior to the Select 200s. Since I was within the return window for the Select 200s, I jumped ship, returned them, and bought the Pro 20s. I do feel that the real-ear testing I got at my fitting appointment at Costco resulted in better tuning of my HAs. In that regard, I'm glad I followed through with my Costco appointment and buying the Pro 20s. Frankly, I can't tell whether the improvement in my hearing is due to the HAs or the tuning, though I suspect it was the tuning. The guy I worked with at Costco was knowledgeable and pleasant, though judging by the variation in experiences with Costco that people report here, YMMV. Hauling myself across town to Costco is, for me, a bit more of a hassle than the remote service you get with the Jabra OTCs (and I have plenty of TP, cat litter, and cheese stocked up, so the sequence of appointments for testing, fitting, adjustment, and follow-up were of little collateral benefit). The apps are nearly identical, though the Pro app has the added benefit of allowing you to switch listening modes via an Apple watch. When I finally got around to seeing my ENT's audiologist, she confirmed the same pattern and degree of hearing loss found by both Mimi and Costco's technician. The audiologist had me schedule yet another appointment to review HA options with her team, but she also had no reservations about me buying through Costco. My appointment giving the audiologist an opportunity to up-sell whatever products she carries isn't until February. All of this sums up to: since this isn't your first rodeo, you'll probably be fine with OTC. Jabra's remote OTC support system is solid. But if you think you'll want real-ear testing, then shopping at Costco would be preferable. Sorry for all those words. Best of luck.

r/HearingAids on Reddit: AMA New Costco Jabra Enhance Pro 30s
September 18, 2025 -

Picked up my new hearing aids today from Costco! Here's a quick summary of my experience:

Costco was pretty seamless. Called to make an appointment, then went in and had a standard audiology exam. I wasn't able to order the hearing aids that day because they needed my doctor to sign off first, but that won't be the case for most people (I've had surgeries on the ear and audiologists always double check with me). Came back a few days later and ordered the hearing aids, about a week and half later I came back for the fitting and they helped me link it up to my phone, and I walked out wearing them!

Jabra Enhance Pro 30s have seemed really good so far, I've only been wearing them for about half a day now, but I'm impressed. I have profound hearing loss in my left ear and moderate loss on my right ear. Very impressed with the performance so far.

I read a lot of threads before going for these, so happy to answer any questions people have.
