I would really like to change the hydrostatic transmissions oil on my gt2554 with a horizontal kohler command 23hp engine. It’s been about five years but I’m not willing to pay $90.00 for six individual quart so I’d love it if someone could gove me the correct oil weight or point me in the direction of a cheaper alternative. Thanks ✌🏼.

May 9, 2018 - TT now recommends heavier weight oils for the most parts. You gotta find out which transmission you have. Then simply call TT or go online and search. I have mowers using K61 and K62 transmissions and I use Amsoil Zero Turn Hydrostatic fluid 20w-50 in both of mine.

No. 15w-50 or 20w-50 engine oil. I use 15w-50 Mobil 1 in my hydros. How can you tell it's low on fluid? It's a Tuff Torq K46. As far as I know, there's no dipstick. There's also not much of a way for it to get low unless there's a leak somewhere.

That machine uses a Tuff Torq K46, which does not take ATF but instead standard 20w50 motor oil however it might not be serviceable which means you are in for trouble as it likely has a leak.
