I'm a Mac guy, but love a good linux server. I'm currently using an older Dell Optiplex with 8GB of RAM and an Intel Core i5-2400 @ 3.10GHz. It's pretty slow. So I'm thinking I should probably upgrade. I saw this offer on Dell for a 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-12400, 8GB RAM for $399.99. Judging by the CPU Benchmark scores, it's a huge leap in performance, and at $399.99, it seems like a great deal. But I'm not totally sold. It seems too good to be true.
The server I have now runs Docker with Plex and associated software.

Good deal but I'm apprehensive about buying an OEM like Dell. Often not high-quality components and I'd be worried about non-standard BS in case parts need to be replaced. Both are assumptions about this unit.

Great deal.....however, it's dell and it will have lots of proprietary stuff. It may be difficult to upgrade later. Also, 8GB RAM will not get you far if you plan to run VMs. For Docker with Plex it will be fine. I would just get a second 8GB DIMM to have 16GB and dual channel (adds ~8% performance in many cases). 8GB of RAM is very cheap. To build this yourself, I would estimate it would cost between 500 and 550. (case, cpu, motherboard, ram, ssd). If you already have a case, it might be a little less.

Hi everyone. As the title states, I'm about to buy a new Dell desktop computer, but am not sure which to buy. I've narrowed it down to these two (not four, as in the title). Which is better? As you can see, the second lists the RTX 3050 graphics card, while the first has an "integrated graphics card". On the other hand, the second is a core i5 rather than i7, with an "F" at the end and faster CPU speed, but lower cache size. It's also more expensive, though that doesnt matter. But I do wonder if that indicates its better. Anyway I'm just not sure how to evaluate these two. THANK YOU!!
