What are some of your favourite unique or underrated formal dress shops?
I'm not sure how underrated 1861.ca is, but I like it a lot. I got my high school junior prom dress from there. I'd say it's got something of a unique style.
Shipping is like ~$15 from Canada, but since the dress I got was so inexpensive I ended up spending less than a lot of my classmates.
Ah, if not for that shipping fee maybe I'd have another more casual dress from there.

Favorite brands for cocktail dresses?
Hello r/femalefashionadvice! I'm looking for new places to shop for formal dresses that are a bit unique and not commercially found. I'm not necessarily looking for designer, but statement and avant-garde is more my style. I'm looking for dresses that are mostly under $1000. Do any of you have a go-to for these types of dresses? Here are some places I've looked and really like, but want more options to look through:
Chotronette (my favourite!)
Asos
Aqaq
PrettyLittleThing
Nasty Gal
Bona Drag
Also have gone through Etsy, Lulus, Zara, ModCloth, Shoptiques, and eShakti
I've gone through a couple of previous posts on similar topics, but was hoping to find some websites a little more tailored to my style! I'm actually posting this in search of a wedding dress - but I'm looking for something VERY non-traditional and pretty much anything but normal bridal! Thank you :)

I was going to say Asos but you're clearly already on it.
https://kittendamour.com is good for unique designs. It only makes a certain amount of clothes in each line and its vintage-inspired wear. For example, my skirt I have from the store is number 137 out of 150. There's a lot of formal lines but it does tend to lean towards feminine style. I have seen quite a few designs from there that were a statement outfit.
"With inspiration drawn from the luxury and decadence of 18th Century France, these beautiful vintage inspired designs include lots of lace, motifs, rosettes, frills and pearls." Quote literally copy and pasted from the about us page.
Shipping internationally is AUD$30 unless you buying something over AUD$300, in which case it's free. Or you live in New Zealand in which case shipping is AUD$15.
There are no free returns if you live outside of Australia though so if the size guide confuses you, best stick to somewhere else. You can return or exchange but you will need to pay for the postage and honestly, it's not cheap posting something to (or from) Australia.
I like to browse second-hand or vintage clothing stores. The majority of my more unique clothes and accessories are from second-hand and vintage stores.
I've gotten quite a few actually brand new dresses from second-hand stores (still had tags on and, in some cases, still in a bag) where the brand's known to be expensive. If you have a secondhand clothing store near you, browsing there could help you find something. Vintage stores as well but they will be pricier and could easily go into the $1000.
Those are pretty much my go-to. I generally stay with Asos because it tends to be closer to the price range I can go without having to save up for months. And it does take less time than second-hand/vintage shopping. Kitten D'Amour is if I want something where I know few people will have the same thing and something to splurge on.
I’m really only aware of lulu’s and a couple of other mainstream online shops, but I’m not loving anything. Any suggestions?
What are your favorite brands for cool, modern cocktail dresses?
I love dresses from Khaite and Solace London and looking to find more stores/designers with a similar vibe (or something different but just as amazing)
