Hi all, I was gifted my grandpa's old bench grinder recently and was wondering if anyone had done a similar conversion before? It's got a 1.5hp motor on it.

There are kits. The side of the drive wheel determines your belt speed. If it's all you've got then it's all you've got.

You'll use that plenty. Don't rip it apart. Instead, go around the neighborhood on trash day or look online for an old treadmill. Variable speed controller built in and up to a 3hp motor for really cheap if not free. All you need then is a sheet of steel to drill out and the rollers.
