I have a older canon and found photography to be pretty fun. I want to get a newer camera with better features in it and a better censor. I also want to get a more compact camera to make it easier to travel with. The camera I currently have is pretty bulky and is 14 years old, I am probably going to be doing street and landscape photography. I went on a trip last summer to Hawaii and some low light pictures I took and they didn’t turn out very well and I had to do a lot of editing in Lightroom. I also want to shoot some video but I would probably be doing more photo then video.
EDIT: I am dumb and forgot to mention that my "old camera" is a Canon Rebel XSi

I would go Canon EOS RP + 50mm prime lens or Fujifilm X-T3 + 18-55mm kit lens. Sony has great entry level cameras too, but you may run into budget issues even in their 6000 series. Basically what I'm saying is buy a mirrorless camera. There's really no sense in buying a DSLR (mirrored) camera in 2022 if you're a beginner/hobbyist.

I don't know what "better features and a better sensor" means without knowing your current camera, and I don't know if you have Canon lenses you want to stay with Canon for. If you don't particularly need to stick with Canon, my subjective recommendation is to check out Fuji cameras. The X-100V is a fantastic small camera, with a single fixed 35mm lens that's just right for street photography. The X-E4 is similar, but with interchangeable lenses, and the X-T30 has a more dslr design while also being small. All of these cameras will run you more than $1,000 new, but I recommend not buying new and not buying the latest model either. I chose to get an X-T2 despite it being 2 generations old by now, because the only upgrades are to video quality and autofocua performance. I'll take a sensor that's just as good for 1/4 the price, thank you. Oh, and Fujifilm supports older cameras with firmware updates for a looong time, and these updates can include serious performance upgrades.

there's so much to unpack here... - cinematic look can be achieved in post - most (if not all) cameras today are hybrid video/stills - if you want lightweight and articulated screen, then you are limiting yourself, but it all depends what is lightweight to you: mirrorless or osmo pocket (weight and size difference is huge between the two) - go here and have a look around: Best cameras and lenses: 2025 DPReview Buying Guides - go here to compare specific cameras and search for specific features: Camera feature search: Digital Photography Review : Digital Photography Review - you will have to try out couple cameras, until you find the one that fits YOU the best - for me personally, it is Ricoh GR IIIx, but I also use Fujifilm x-t30 if I need specific features - it all depends - consider this a beginning of a great journey and just shoot - don't focus too much on gear :)

If you want good autofocus, Get the sony Zv-E10 or something like that. If you buy the bundle on b&h for $800, It will come with a alright kit lens. This camera is designed for v loggers in mind. Canon also has several sub $1000 cameras such as the r10 and r100, However I am not a fan of canon due to their lack of third party lenses. I also don’t like either cameras build quality. The fujifilm x-m5 is also a good sub $1000 travel camera. It is coming out soon. If you want to focus more on photography, but would like the option of video, The canon T7i paired with a 50mm f1.8 is an amazing camera for $500. But it lacks modern video capabilities. I would heavily suggest getting nice used lenses for whatever camera body you end up getting. The ones that come with the cameras work but there are better options.
