Your opinion on practicing drawing/studying gestures with anime figurines.
Don't do this. If you don't learn to draw by studying real figures, you will be building a weak foundation for the rest of your skills. Anime artists already studied the human body, and now they usually 'break the rules', but they had to know the rules first in order to break them successfully (without their work being rather terrible). You have to 'learn the rules' (gain a basic understanding of the human body) first. I would suggest maybe doing both if you feel that you will lose interest without the anime. Edit: you should draw from life whenever you can manage it, I am not a huge fan of those joint dolls actually. More on reddit.com

Improving my anime body poses - Art Discussions - Krita Artists
Hi, I’m a hobbyist Krita user, dabbling in digital painting at night. I love all things anime, so my current aim is to draw some fan-art. I don’t really know how to color and shade yet, I want to first get decently good with simplified anatomy and form. I have trouble with consistency and ... More on krita-artists.org

How to draw poses from imagination/memory?
Poses are hard, I sadly speak from experience lol There really is no trick, other than to learn more about anatomy (you don't have to know every muscle, but at least basic body parts and proportions), and to do as many figure/gesture studies as possible. If you haven't, look into gesture drawing (plenty of YouTube videos about it, Proko explains it well) and do a bunch of those every day. Keep them under 1-2 min each and just spend 15-20 min on them. Then spend some time on a more fleshed out figure study from reference. Nude would probably be better, so you can focus on the body and really see how it moves, folds, bends, etc. http://line-of-action.com , http://reference.sketchdaily.net , and http://quickposes.com are all good places to find those references (and you can use them for timed gesture drawings). If you have a chance check out Michael Hampton's Figure Drawing: Design and Invention. It's a really good book on the subject, and I like how it starts from the very basica and slowly builds up on them. Edit: I forgot to mention this, I know this isn't drawing from memory, but it's the only way to get to that point. Unless you have an insane photographic memory, you will need to build a visual library of poses before you can create a believable on out of nowhere. Check out some Kim Jung Gi videos, he's at the point where he can draw dynamic figures in ink without any sort of sketch, but even he talks about how he's drawn so much from reference in his decades of work that it's become second nature at this point. Learning gestures and poses, and since I'm mostly interested in anime, I was thinking just drawing lots of anime figurines? I've noticed lots of figures have really dynamic poses, and since it is based on anime it would keep me interested in studying as well.

What are the pros/cons of this you can think of of this? As a starting newbie, am I biting more than I can chew and should I just focus on websites like posemaniacs or buy a joint doll to practice?

r/ArtistLounge on Reddit: Any good places to find anime pose references Or Pose references that fit anime?
February 27, 2024 -

I know bit of a common question, I can get that, But its a bit different for me enough to ask this.
You know I always say, I know my sources, And well up to this point, My resources are getting limited..Lets put it at that.

Especially with what I am going to work with right now, Which is going to be fantasy themed (Well not fantasy themed, Its just like a dnd satire thing yadi yada, You get the point) And I think finding poses for it is a bit hard, Because all I require is mostly a male mage pose, A male archer pose, And a male warrior pose (The last one has to be with muscles because well his a warrior)

And all of these well are surprisingly hard to find when you use google, And infact, I am a getting a bit tired on spending hours of searching for references at this point, Its like, I should be taking more time drawing then grabbing a reference, Infact its the most infuriating part for me in the process

And I am getting a bit tired of searching for a references for hours on end, So I ask if there is any website or place that has good anime poses references both nsfw and sfw? And Especially for poses like these? It can be anything really, I just need to find more places to get pose references that are anime, Really I just wanna make my search easier in the end.

Would be appreciated

How to Draw Anime Poses Step by Step - AnimeOutline
February 21, 2020 - The only real difference is a slightly larger and rounder head (as is common in anime). ... Though it’s quite common to start the drawing of a person from the head the examples in this tutorial will start with the torso. In more dynamic poses getting it’s bend and/or twist first can make it much easier to place the rest of the body parts.

I really want to be able to draw various poses, etc, mostly in an anime or comic book style. I’ve done mostly realistic drawings for a year or so properly now, and just want to know how to pursue more comic book/anime style artworks.

If you're looking to develop style in general think about exaggeration. What do you want to exaggerate that will give your work a sense of uniqueness. Animes are known for big eyes and colourful hair. American comics are known for their harsh shading and strong brushstrokes. You can experiment by making your lines thicker or by making the feet really big. Also look up artists you admire and see what they exaggerate in their work. Take different elements from different artists and create your hybrid :)
