Dremel bit choice guide?
I use: the standard cutting wheel to cut brass and plastic. a small diameter round hand file to deburr. a conical sanding tip to smooth brass edges or grind plastic in tight spots. sanding wheels for some misc stuff. I just picked up some high speed cutter tips to try out to cut plastic in tight spots. Hoping these will be faster than the sanding tips for where the cutting wheel won’t reach. More on reddit.com

[Props] What Dremel bits/accessories are "must-haves"?
Here's a picture of my favorite Dremell bits . You've already got my biggest recomendation covered which is the flex-shaft. That thing allows you more finess like using a marker than a power tool. I recomend putting a hook into the wall about 24"-36" over your work table to hang the dremel up there while you use the flex shaft. My go to bits (really the only ones I use) are (in order of usage) grinding drums and other stones (I like 952 the most, but use 8175, 932, 953 a lot as well.) Always have a fresh one for backup. It's always the projects you least expect that wear down your stones super fast. the sanding drums with replaceable pads in both 1/4" and 1/2" (a while back I had to start buying the drums over the internet) . I love these things, they solve all sorts of problems with wood. Also do some nice work in foam carving as well. *Engraving I use 105, 106 and 107. They do well with small wood carving as well. I made a Klien Bottle that is only about 1.5" tall out of a solid piece of red oak using mostly this before hand sanding. (190, 191 1nd 192 might have actually been the bits I used for wood.) 199 which is basically a tiny circular saw on a stick. Great for all sorts of bigger cutting chopping and even some carving depending on the scale and material. the abrasive cutting discs (as was recommended, there's two kinds, get the kind that doesn't explode) but I don't use these so much any more becuase I have a 3" shop saw with an abrassive blade and fence so that I can clamp in a stop block and do repeat cuts. June 26, 2025 - The below image shows the Dremel 3000 with a Bottle Neck Diamond Core Drill, along with some twist drills, small diamond core drills and diamond tipped drill bits. For these drills and other diamond drill bits, see our complete range here. As I mentioned earlier, drill bits can be mounted on different-sized shanks, so if you're looking to use your Dremel for drilling holes or drilling out a core, you might want to invest in a Dremel Multi Chuck or Collet Nut Kit.

r/Tools on Reddit: How to tell what material a dremel attachment is intended for?
November 12, 2021 -
I got a dremel with about a dozen attachments in an unlabeled box at an estate sale. Is there a way to tell what material a given attachment is intended for, short of trying it out and seeing if it breaks? Specifically, I have a project where I want to cut or grind some metal, and I can't tell whether any of the attachments I have can handle metal, or if it'll just ruin them.

They’re pretty consistent in their design of attachments — the grinding stone colors have meaning, etc. looking at a reference for the different kinds of bits/attachments should let you know. That said — what are you trying to cut? The dremel is usually really good for tiny jobs, and otherwise perhaps a different tool. From my experience cutting metal with a dremel, you’d enjoy having a face shield in addition to safety glasses, and I would have a bunch of spare cutting discs. The knockoff/fake cutting discs seem to work about the same as the real ones, to me.
