Shark’s suite of multi-stylers provides the closest alternatives I’ve tested, with Coanda technology and different attachment sets that you can choose based on your hair type and styling needs. I’ve also tried the luxe T3 Aire 360, a four-attachment multi-styler for $300, which is an elegant tool that delivers salon-quality blowouts. If you’re looking for a more affordable option, Wavytalk’s Air Sculpt comes with four or five attachments and is under $100. While it doesn’t include curling barrels, it does have multiple thermal brushes so you can achieve different blowout styles.

Over the past year, I’ve informally asked several hairstylists for their thoughts on the Dyson Airwap and they’ve all said something along the same lines: It’s great for at-home users but not efficient for a salon environment. You likely won’t find the Dyson Airwrap in the hands of a professional hairstylist at a salon, simply because they are trained with all the technical skills to create beautiful blowouts with traditional hair tools. While I was testing the best curling irons, hairstylist Rogério Cavalcante pointed out that the curling feature on the Airwrap is probably best for those with thin or straight hair, since curly and coily hair types would likely need to straighten their hair first, which wouldn’t be compatible with the Coanda airflow that’s meant for wet-to-dry styling. So that’s a consideration as well.
