Thoughts on refurbished Dyson
Hairdryer-Lasts 2 years max
Dyson supersonic hair dryer owners, I have questions.
Thoughts on buying refurbished vs. new? Are the cost savings worth it?

Have any of you guys tried any of the Dyson refurbished pieces? Specifically the corrale or hair dryer. Let me know your thoughts!
I am posting this here as a cautionary tale to anybody that is interested in purchasing and making an investment in one of these hairdryers.
I truly thought when I originally purchased my first hairdryer that I would have this for years to come. My first hairdryer lasted for about 22 months:
The first hairdryer I used about five times a week, cleaned the filter about twice a month, and one day it powered down, and never turned back on. I troubleshooted it as much as I could locally, could not fix and reached out to customer service in which I still was in warranty and they exchanged me a new one.
Fast-forward to 23 months with the replacement Dyson, it powers down I troubleshoot again and it will not work. I reached out to customer service as I diligently had registered this device and it showed me I was still within warranty. After troubleshooting again, they offer me the following solutions:
-can’t honor the warranty because they apparently go off the date of the original hair dryer. -20% off to purchase a new one -go to a service center but I don’t live near one and they won’t let me use the postal service
After about an hour asking for alternative solutions or asking to see the exchange policy, they send me to a supervisor in which they offer me a refurbished hair dryer that is a lesser model than the one I originally purchased.
At this point, I just want a hair dryer that will work. I accept the exchange. I will NEVER purchase a Dyson hair dryer at full price, fully aware that they will only last a couple of years max.
Is this the normal electronic life of a hair dryer? am I missing something here? Has anyone experienced similar issues with a Dyson?
I've had my refurbished Dyson supersonic hair dryer since the end of 2019 (which is a record for any hair dryer I've owned) and it's starting to crap out a bit.
My husband and I use it everyday and I clean the filter regularly. I also store it in a big drawer with my flat iron so there's plenty of room. I do not wrap the cord tightly and just gently gather it together.
I noticed the cord, where it meets the adapter, is getting wonky and slightly bulge-y and it's starting to not always turn on unless I have the cord at a specific angle, so something is getting loose. The part where it's connected to the adapter is also starting to get hotter than it probably should. I'm way out of warranty and already contacted customer service at Dyson (which btw, is horrible).
The customer service chat person said they can send me a free shipping label to ship it to their Calgary service center for the people to look at to see if it can be fixed. They can't tell me the repair cost until i ship the dryer and IF i do decide to fix it, I have to pay to ship it back to BC... shipping in Canada is a lot plus I don't even know if they can fix it when it's only semi-dying, so I'm likely not going with the service center option. It still works as long as I have the cord at the right angle.
I also called the Vancouver store to see if they could give me a ballpark estimate of the cost, but they didn't know. It also couldn't google an average cost to fix the hair dryer either.
I've been doing lots of internet seraching to figure out if it's worth getting a replacement and it seems like many people that have purchased a Dyson in the last 1-3 years say it craps out relatively quickly. I'm onboard to purchase a refurbished one again, the only downside is there's no refund, but there is a 1 year warranty.
How long have you had your Dyson?
If you purchased a refurbished one, when did you get it and how's it going for you?
Do you also use it on the daily?
In general, how's it doing? Yes/no issues?
If you did send your Dyson to repair the loose cord, how much did it cost? If your Dyson still going strong?
