Edward jones is a scam
When we were looking for a financial advisor we spoke with a couple EJ people and they were upfront with their fees (which we found way to high) so we didn't use them. It would have been foolish on our part to accept such a bad agreement but it wasn't a scam. A scam would be if the fees were hidden. More on reddit.com
Is Edward jones as bad as they say?
They nickel and dime you: https://www.edwardjones.com/sites/default/files/acquiadam/2022-12/ira-schedule-of-fees.pdf E.g., just to have an IRA with them costs you $75 / year. They also charge you 2% load on dividend reinvestment of a stock. Plus when you try to leave they smack a $100 termination fee on you. To put this into perspective, at one of the “big 3” low cost brokers (Schwab, Fidelity, Vanguard) (and many others), these services are free. And EJ does absolutely nothing to warrant this price differentiation. Plus there are the indirect shitty aspects of EJ, such as pushy salespeople looking for commissions on subpar product, and terrible expense ratios on nearly all funds they offer (last I checked, which was about 6-8 years ago) on their IRA’s. Edward Jones
I've never heard of Edward Jones until last week when a guy knocked on my door. I did a meeting with him yesterday and I'm shocked that they expect me to put my money in a fund that's expected to make 5% after fees. More on reddit.com
How do I leave Edward Jones?
Tell Schwab, they will handle everything on your behalf. They may conference call you into Edward jones while they set up the transfers. You can also just shoot EJ an email to give them a heads up, but ultimately it’s your money and you don’t owe them any more of it. More on reddit.com

December 28, 2024 -
My grandparents have a few hundred thousand invested with the local EJ salesman. I took a look at their portfolio and it showed the management fee took half of the gains on the investment bringing my grandparents return to 3%. What a rip off.

Not necessarily a scam. I'm not an EJ fan but their jobs to meet the clients risk tolerance which in the case of your grandparents may be minimal. Comparing the type of return you would get say in your 30s to what they are getting in their 70s is apples and oranges. Is it worth the 1 to 1.5 percent for them to have a manged account is only for them to decide. They may not be comfortable doing it on their own.

An Update for Edward Jones Advisors: What’s Driving Movement? - Diamond Consultants: Financial Advisor Recruiting Firm
August 23, 2023 - For example, following the 2016 “cross-selling scandal,” Wells Fargo advisors moved with near record velocity. Similarly, after a brief honeymoon period with Bank of America in which the legacy Merrill culture remained intact, many Merrill advisors left the Thundering Herd in the late 2010s and early 2020s as the “bankification” of the firm became more and more evident. And the most recent wave, as movement data proves, is among Edward Jones advisors, many of whom were “lifers” prior to making a change.
