The epson has dye-based black as well. The Canon G-6020 and G-7020 is worth taking a look at if you can find it in stock. It's got a crappy user interface, but the rest of the printer is pretty decent. The Canon inks are slightly less expensive, probably not a significant difference. The black ink is pigment, the colors are dye-based, if that is important to you. Brother inktanks are much more expensive to operate, on a price-per-page basis. My colours originally were fine but the quality looked bad and you could just see a bunch of dots instead of solid color. When I fixed the dot issue and was getting better quality prints, that's when they colors went weird
