It isn't useless, but I think the general sentiment of the article is correct. A lot of companies are burning a lot of money on the premise that there is a "next step" just around the corner. But history and the algorithms underlying generative AI tell us the next step is very unlikely to happen. We just played this game with Elon Musk and self-driving cars for the last 10 years -- guess what technology underlies the decision making in self-driving cars (spoiler: it is generative AI). IMO ChatGPT and derivative products will provide some nice productivity enhancements across a lot of industries over the next 10 or so years and some types of jobs will see a reduction in demand. I think that the phenomena of humans reading less should be studied. I know some people are more comfortable being visual learners or audio learners, but reading is still a fundamental part of the human experience. Taking the shortcut to just listening everything so that you can multitask must be less efficient than focusing on learning the concept, I'd think. More on reddit.com
