I currently am a GS-11 (hopefully) waiting on word back from GS-12 positions I applied for. My job is essentially reactionary. Something occurs, we go and fix it, so you can imagine how slow it can be at times. I also work weekends and most holidays when it’s normally dead. Does anyone have any recommendations for online training that can give me the edge in a future job that may have to do with Policy & Planning, cybersecurity or IT in general.

Some key details:

My current job now is mostly communications despite having the IT Specialist title. I believe they switched the title to get more applicants.

I asked if they can pay for training and they shot down my suggestions (Coursera and Pluralsight) because they didn’t want to pay for a subscription.

I’m willing to pay out of pocket as long as it’s reasonable.

The only certification I have is Security+
