Custom keyboards creators - Low Profile Switch KS-33 Gateron 2.0 - review request
They're nice, I like them a lot, much more so than any choc. It feels more substantial than any choc switches (probably due to longer travel). The banana gateron is a nice tactile (feel similar to the brown one but sounds less rattling) and both of them are better than gateron brown (the high profile one). The blue one sounds very similar to any gateron/cherry blue. The spacing is determined by the keycaps, not switches, if you use cherry mx keycaps, you'll need cherry mx spacing and most of the low profile switches designed for these switches are cherry size so you will need a cherry spacing case for it. Identify this Gateron low-profile Brown? - Key switches - KeebTalk
Hi, There is a helpful switch tester on AliExpress: 3 of the switches are Gateron Low-profile. WRT to the Brown, is that a 1.0 low-profile? I understand that there is a 2.0 out, a V2 that has a whitish bottom-housing instead of the black of the 1.0. I just want to verify - the switch in that ... More on keebtalk.com

Gateron Low Profile 2.0 Blue Switches?
I have a 96 with Wisteria Switches and a 75 with the blue. I must say I like them both. Love the clicky sound of the blue. In comparison the Blue require slight more force but I don't think that's a bad thing. The Wisteria also have a nice sound and feel. To be honest I just can't choose between them. Ik like them both. Looks like the key travel is much longer at 3.2mm compared to previous low-profile offerings at 2.5mm, and that they are compatible with the entire Air lineup. More on reddit.com

May 22, 2024 -

For the keyboard makers in the I saw that Beekeeb is now using the KS-33 switches on some of their boards. I was looking for a good review as they seem to be cheaper than choc V1s

  • how do they feel?

  • do they use a tighter spacing than normal mx style switches?

  • anyone has modded one for less resistance? 35 g

  • how do they sound?

  • Can they be incorporated in choc spacing 3d prints?

Some additional things to mention in addition to what Hai wrote: You will need MX keycaps with reduced skirt for best compatibility without hitting the keyboard plate (which is kinda needed since there are no stabilizing pins). The kitting for those profiles (e.g. XVX Horizon/Skyline, NuPhy nSA, Keychron LSA, etc.) is aimed at conventional row stagger keyboards, so you will need to put up with odd legends, or use blanks (SMOLO or 3D printed). I've been working on a low profile switch vs. keycap profile compatibility sheet, and whether a simple 0.5mm shim can improve compatibility. Had some good results with Choc v2 and DSA which opens up many options, and will continue testing KS-33 later this week. Sound-wise most of the KS-33 sound very similar to me. They don't rattle like Choc v1, factory lube is okay but could be better. They are all kinda loud on bottom-out. I did try the recent Chocolate version with POM housing and it does sound ever so slightly deeper but not notable. It's also much less tactile than the Banana version. The Blue version uses click leaf mechanism, if you're into that. Lastly, NuPhy Aloe (Linear 37 gf) are the lightest stock version, should be close enough to the weight you're looking for.
