CI/CD is glue code between a language/runtime (e.g. Java/OpenJDK, JS/Node, Ruby, something in a Docker Container) incl delivery (depending on your kind of artifact, eg. Docker Container, Maven Repository, npm compliant registry) and a deployment mechanism to the environment you want to run in (e.g. Docker, Docker with docker-compose, Ansible, Kubernetes, Kubernetes with Helm, Kubernetes with kustomize, etc.) So I think for a tutorial you would need to start and register a gitlab-runner (which is super simple, as you can register the runner interactively) and an example pipeline which does the standard build / test / deploy for your chosen language / runtime / artefact delivery / deployment style. It also depends a lot on where the gitlab-runners are hosted. From a security perspective I think it's easier/simpler to host the gitlab-runner INSIDE the environment you want to deploy to. Not git. And not GitHub.
Every page of documentation on GitLab's site seems to assume I already have memorized every other page of the git, GitLab, and GitHub documentation. Everything I can find on the Google seems to be the same. Either they simply list the basic features of GitLab or they assume you could rewrite the GitLab code from scratch from the top or your head.
I need something to take me from knowing the basics of git, to the basics of GitLab and how that works with git. It would also be nice to have a basic explanation of how to integrate Visual Studio with GitLab. How to match up how Visual Studio organizes applications into "Solutions" and "Projects" to how GitLab organizes "projects," "groups," and "repositories."

Just ask around here one thing at a time, and I am sure several of us would be willing to spend a couple of minutes to help out. To start out, there are several great videos to learn git in youtube. Just dont get yourself stuck on a concept, you may need 2 or 3 videos explained in different ways/styles by different people to grasp a concept fully.
