So, I’ve been an avid Google Workspace user for a while now. Used it throughout high school, and have been using it since. But now I have a student account of Microsoft 365, and I’m not sure which one I should be using.
I’m a creative writing major, so the thing I’ll be using most is Word or Google Docs, maybe with some basic Spreadsheets to organize some things.

Out of the gate here are a few things; Pro Office 365: Word is a better editor than Google docs excel has much better better performance than google sheets MS has Far more features in their applications Native Powershell support More storage One drive app is better than the google drive desktop app. It supports block level syncing so you only have to sync the change to a file rather than the whole file. Google's app crashes a lot , is kind of slow to sync and only supports full file syncing. You edit a 300 mb file with google and you have to resync the whole file. Pros Google workspace: Easier to setup Better uptime (not by much) Better webmail (I hate outlook and all of its bugs) Better storage model but less storage at the lower levels of service. better included spam and phishing email detection (3rd party filters on both platforms are available) You should really learn both. Google made a hard push to get chrome books into schools to fight MS's dominance and did a great job getting market share. Many businesses however still are looking for MS skills. Google has been slacking and falling behind. They both will get the job done but for a writer I give the edge to Microsoft. If you are into AI tools like chatgpt MS is probably going to be the first to market with integrated AI tools. (there are already 3rd party integrations for both) tl;dr: Go with MS for now to learn it and see what you like better.

Hey!
We're a team of 4 people and working now on dropbox on our Macs. We're collaborating in keynote and have some random excel sheets etc. So it's easier to move our cloud service from Dropbox to Google as we want to work more in sheets, documents, forms etc.
I'm thinking to go for Google One as it's cheaper to work there instead of 40 euro per month (10 euro per team member) in Google Workspace.
Not a fan to move to Office365, but I'm curious if any of you have experience with working in Google One with a small team and if you would recommend it over going straight away to Google Workspace.

With Google One, you only get the storage to backup and keep your files; while with Google Workspace, you get a pack of services including mail with your domains, storage and others. It's not the same thing. So which do you need for?

So I have been trying google workspace for a week now and honest the only difference I see from normal gmail account and google workspace is the whole administrative structure behind the scenes, resetting passwords, creating users, etc.
From the user perspective, only custom domain email account, and more storage space, everything is exactly the same. I don't see any ads on free google accounts either. I was expecting to see some ads on gmail boxes but nothing not even on mobile.
Am I missing something here?
Fair to say that google workspace is not worth for personal use only for business?

Workspace is a business product, designed for businesses not personal use. Everyone I have seen trying to use it for personal or family purposes has always had a bad experience in the end, well because it is not meant for that. It has been created to allow an administrator to manage and control users, not to have a fancy personal email address. People trying to use it for personal use usually end up turning off all of the security features, which to me defeats the purpose of having this service, just for the extra storage, it would be cheaper to pay for Google One on a gmail.com account

For personal use, there's pretty much zero reason to pay for it. Now if you were using your personal account to run your sole proprietorship, you might have reason to use some of the compliance or security features that are available with Workspace, but that's not really a personal account anymore.

I know Google One plans are for individuals and Google Workspace is for organizations. However, currently I pay 20/month for Google One 2TB AI Enhancement. Google Workspace 2TB (which includes full AI features and more apps,) is 14/month (per user, but you only need one user.)
Am, I missing something, am I dumb to keep the Google One plan when for 5 dollars less per month I can get the same storage and more features/ more apps, with an individual Google Workspace account? Or is there something I am missing here?

Be aware that some of the Google home stuff has issues with workspace users. You'll also need a domain for workspace.

You'll need a domain to go along with the Google workspace giving you a whole new Google account and email (on that new domain) where Google one is an extension to your existing Google account
