I don’t get it. They are in well served neighborhoods with other grocery options and everything they carry (including food town brand items) are at like a 2-3x markup. What’s going on here?????

Old people who want to go out for a walk to get a quart of $9 milk and have gotten milk at Gristedes since 1979. They likely are also either wealthy and / or have a super ridiculously low priced rent-controlled apartment or bought a condo on the UES for $80k in the 70's.
