A quick review of Grok 2 after using it 1st time
How about a different view. Grok is actually shockingly good... It always surprises me when somebody uses a tool that's obviously not designed for the task for which they're using it and they call it bad. If you took a Ferrari down to the beach with the intention of making a lake trip, do you think that Ferrari would do an awesome job on the water? I don't think so. When using AI, you can't divorce yourself from the environment in which the AI is embedded. Where do you think Grok is embedded? It appears to be embedded in X. So, if you want to get the most out of that tool and see just exactly how shockingly good it is, why not try discussing current news? Perhaps political discussion? Is there any other AI with which you could attempt that? I don't think so. I'm also a very heavy user of Google Gemini. You think I use Google Gemini because it's the smartest AI out there? It is shockingly poor when you attempt any kind of political conversation, so what purpose is it? Well, I take a look at the environment in which it is embedded which is basically the entire Google ecosystem. If I want to use it in Gmail there it is. If I want to use it in Google drive there it is. Need to create a Google. Keep note, easy. Need 2 TB of extra storage for the price of one AI, easy. There are no rubber stamp issues for how useful AI is. It depends on your use case and the environment in which the AI is embedded. I hope this helps those who might be thinking of doing more than trying to create some HTML code with Grok. If you're an individual that might be interested in unfettered, unfiltered, unrestricted conversation about current topics, especially those of a political nature, there is nothing better on planet Earth than Grok.. Grok has now started accepting searching the net, even uf it claims it cant do that if you ask it. I would say it's the best to subscribe to and chatgpt the best one to take advantage of the free access, as I wouldn't say paying for that is worth it.

TLDR: Not very useful. (currently)
It might have some stuff that's worth the price wall, but the things I wanted to use it for it's utterly useless. Asking it to generate html code, it forgets and omits details 95% of the time. Doesn't have the ability to search online, and has zero intuition or memory that I could see. I asked it to generate a HTML based description, then after it did so I gave it a screenshot of a description saying "follow the general format and style of this and regenerate". It regenerated the description in the same style as it's first attempt, only this time it swapped the info for the info that was contained in the example screenshot. Used up the 50 messages per 2 hour limit trying to get it to work with a singular description, which it never did. Towards the end of the limit being hit it would give the HTML code incomplete or missing a bit of info that was supposed to go right at the end, and despite half a dozen "this part is missing" prompts, it never corrected it.
Overall, not worth it atm.

Nah come on. That's an incredibly unfair review of essentially 1 single task that afaik most AI will often flail around helplessly when confronted with. For starters, its image generation is extremely fast and very high quality. Grok has already saved me over 100 bucks this week alone; I was looking for a cheap 2nd hand phone and couldn't find anything decent from a reputable company for less than 120-180 bucks, google was (of course) useless. So I ask Grok to make a few suggestions, I end up walking away with a ludicrously cheap ($30!) Nokia phone that I otherwise wouldn't have even thought to look for. After that, Grok held my hand and walked me through troubleshooting significant issues with my new Nobara OS Linux installation (permissions and drive mounting problems). Just this week alone: I now have a super cheap phone and a really awesome Linux gaming PC that actually works. I would've never got to the bottom of the troubles without Grok, or at least without multiple hours of 1-on-1 troubleshooting with peeps on Discrd. All thanks to Grok. I would suggest looking for the things it does really WELL as opposed to focusing on highly technical tasks like html programming that are nothing but a headache with AI.
