r/AskNYC on Reddit: What's the best store/neighborhood for high-end thrift?
September 6, 2023 -
Walking around midtown and seeing tons of professionals in fancy clothes, suits, and other garments—would love to upscale my wardrobe, but paying full price for those kinds of clothes is well beyond my budget.
Lots of people talk about hitting thrift shops in nice neighborhoods.
Any suggestions on places where rich people drop off their unwanted, but higher-end stuff? What's the best place you've found for high-end thrift?

You’re 15 years too late tbh, but check the consignment shops (any of them), especially the designer ones like TheRealReal. You might do better online than in person. You can try stores in the trendy rich areas like Park Slope and West Village/Soho, but again the steals are not a thing anymore. Some unsolicited advice: what matters is getting clothes that look good and fit you. It might be worth saving your money to get clothes you do have and like tailored versus getting something higher end.

November 19, 2025 - Regardless of whether you go into the Manhattan, Greenpoint, or Park Slope store, though, all will agree with this: Give yourself ample time to browse. While Beacon’s Closet offers some of the best bargain thrifting in New York, it also requires shoppers to do the most digging. (Though the racks are organized by product categories, colors, and gender, the sheer volume of clothing and the mix of brands — ranging from fast fashion to contemporary, designer, and vintage — is overwhelming to even the most thrift-savvy.)

March 20, 2024 - Best to go first thing on the weekday or toward the end of the day over the dinner hour · Prices are slightly higher here than any other store on the list, and rightfully so. The selection is amazing and so prices reflect that. You can still find great $20 – $30 finds, though! When I shop with my secondhand tour clients, I try to take them to a Beacon’s Closet near us. It’s a must-see in NYC!
