MI- My husband and I bought our house a few months ago and have come to realize the kitchen cabinets are terrible and ugly and were painted very poorly. We have a very small one wall kitchen with a few cabinets above the fridge on the opposite wall. We’ve gotten a few quotes from other companies ranging from full cabinet removal & replacement to refinishing/wrapping. These estimates ranged from $14,000-$24,000 and were way more than we were expecting so we stopped quote shopping.

We went to Home Depot for paint for a different project and got talked into scheduling an appointment with the cabinet designing and resurfacing people at Home Depot today. Kitchen improvements are something we’re both interested in so we went ahead with the appointment. This isn’t our forever home, so we’re not interested in sinking $20,000+ on a completely brand new kitchen - just looking for a bit of an upgrade/improvement.

Has anyone had this service done before? How did it go? Are you happy with the results?

I have a smaller/medium kitchen (around 11x11) and had the Home Depot cabinet Makeover sales rep give me an estimate. It was $14K after 10% discount for ordering that day (yesterday). The sales pitch was great so I reluctantly ordered it knowing that I could cancel with 72 hours but that really seems like too much.

Thoughts?

My wife and I are re-doing our 1982 house. We definitely don't want to totally rip out and waste every finish. refacing cabinets has been something that I've wanted to do for a while now, but there are so many options. Home Depot comes up a lot online, are they any good? How long did it take the doors to come once you placed the order? Would you do it again, or just shell out the money next time for new cabinets? thanks for the help, it's a hard choice.

My wife and I are looking to do some upgrades in our kitchen. 2 years ago, we got a bid from a certified kitchen re-modeler, and to have our dream kitchen it will cost us $38,000. We can’t afford that anytime soon, so we want to dial it down a bit. Fast forward 2 years to current, and my wife was in Home Depot and got stopped by one of those kitchen sales people and set up an appointment. After meeting with the Home Depot designer we got a bid for Polymer cabinets to resurface our existing wood cabinets and granite counter-top. Along with new under mold 50/50 sink and faucet. Included in the bid is removing the little desk by the fridge and raising it up to normal counter-top height and adding a 3 drawer cabinet for extra storage. This is half the cost of the dream kitchen my wife and I want. Our current cabinets are warped and some of the doors don’t fully close. The hinges on the door of the cabinets are not in great shape too. The color of the laminate by the sink is in wearing off from all the wear and tear. I was hoping to get some opinions of the Home Depot resurfacing job. Any thoughts on Polymer cabinets? Is $15,000 a fair price for a job like this? Can anyone point me in a different direction that my wife and I should be looking at? See pictures of my current Kitchen here!.

I’ve never done a kitchen makeover before, but HD was quoting $137k for this job. I’m sure it’s correct, but it just felt like they railroaded the entire thing. And she only wanted to talk about replacing the cabinets (and I have 3 options for replacing the cabinets, which I don't really need), someone else would come out to talk about the countertops I guess. I am SURE this is a normal process but I’ve never done it before and I needed someone to help me begin this project. Anyway, that all being said.

The cabinets need to be sanded and painted. I can do that.

The tile is very old and the grout is difficult to clean/work with. We really were looking to replace that. The problem with the tile is that there is so much tile on the walls, so we’d need to get a drywall person to do that.

I can do the cabinets. I can’t work with HD again, they were exhausting and confusing. Are there any other big huge red flags I need to be worried about?

I did a design with home depot. Picked the 15 thomasville cabinets with a large pantry cabinet, all the features I wanted. They ended up costing $26,000 in total. Pretty ridiculous. But they had a 30% off special going that would knock the price down to $16k. Which I'm thinking isn't too bad. Only thing is the deal ends in 2 days and I have to make this decision before I was quite ready.

Is this 30% off deal truly a good value that might not come around again soon?

Looking to do cabinets, countertops, and appliances in my kitchen (basically a remodel) and am being quoted $19-23k by Home Depot estimator. Never having gone through them, any idea how close these estimates usually are? Most stuff is low to mid end.
